for those with babies who have acid reflux
My son was just diagnosed with acid reflux and at first the ped. didnt put him on medicine, but it got worse so she put him on zantac. how long does it take until i should see a difference?
Also, it just started getting really bad when I switched him to nutramigen. He is spitting up after almost every bottle now. I am only giving him 3 1/2-4 ounces now, when he used to take 5 1/2 with hardly any spitting up. But, my ped said it is not good to keep switching formulas. But, I cant stand to see him like this and it scares me so much.

Re: for those with babies who have acid reflux
DS was diagnosed with acid reflux after an episode of apnea. (sp) He is on axid. I saw a difference after maybe 3 days. However, it is just a help, not a cure. DS still spits up. Nutramigen is very thin that is probably why he is spitting up so much. Speaking from experience, AR can get bad, not to scare you. Switch the formula if you think that will help.

How did you know he had apnea? I am so scared for him. I hate when I am alone with him.

Re: for those with babies who have acid reflux
Christopher has reflux ansd we put rice cereal in his bottes and that has helped. We saw a difference when we put the rice in and now that he is eating foods, as well as sitting up*(well he is not on his own) but now that he is propped up more in his excersaucer, bumbo seat, etc. that is when we saw a big difference, in fact we are slowly weaning him off the Zantac

He stopped breathing one night when I picked him up for maybe 30 seconds, but then he was fine. We went to the hospital, he was diagnosed with AR. But he wasnt on any medication, & he was screaming non-stop all day. Don't worry, your son will be fine, especially since he is on the medication. Just make sure you elevate his mattress.

I make him sleep in the swing so he is upright. every time i put him in the cradle he cries.

same. DS was great in the swing, It's a hard transition though. Why is your son on the nutramigen? Does he def have a milk protien allergy?

No, we used the Dr. Brown's bottles with the "Y" shaped nipple.
What formula re you using? I know many people used Enfamil AR and it worked GREAT. I couldnt use that because he has a milk-allergy

My DD had the same problem - a total of 4 times she stopped breathing.
We started out on Zantac, but it actually seemed to make her WORSE. We have her on Axid now and it is working great.

Yes they can defininately choke on it, but people still do it without problems.
My nephew has acid reflux and was on a special formual, I don't know which one though. He has to sleep elevated as well, so my sister bought him a wedge thing you stick under the mattress.

Re: for those with babies who have acid reflux
for those of you with your dc on zantac out of curiosity what dose do you give and how do you give it? In the nicu we were just putting it in the formual and then after ds came home the gastro said to give it 15 min after feeding. and btw i was told that all babies can reflux 60-70 times a day!!!! who knew!
