For those with formula covered by insurance - Updated - they finally approved it!
How long after a letter of medical necessity was sent to the insurance company did it take for them to approve the prescription? We have a new plan and they are taking forever to approve it. The doctor's office faxed in the letter on Tuesday.
Thanks. Cathy
Update: So after 2 weeks of back and forth with UHC they finally put the prescription through. Whew!

It took several months of resubmitting and rechecking with them but they had to give us back pay to the date of the later so it worked out ok.

Re: For those with formula covered by insurance
I went through Apria myself but apparently fell through some kind of loophole because insurance didn't cover formula (Alimentum) for us. Something about my DH making too much money. It was so ridiculous...no one ever heard of such nonsense at my pediatrician's office.
Good luck!

Re: For those with formula covered by insurance
It's so aggrivating. We have United Healthcare still, but a new plan as of 1/1. Last year when we needed to put in the rx, the doctor's office called while we were there and I was able to drop off the rx on the way home and pick it up when it came in the next day. Back then the pharmacy made a mistake and ordered over 4 months worth at once, which UHC approved, so we haven't needed to refill until now.
This time they want a pre-authorization and a letter of medical necessity from the doctor.

I had United Healthcare as well. They wouldn't cover.
