For those with PhD in psych
I've been debating whether to go back to school and get a PhD in Social Psychology (I'm thinking about combining my two passions - law and psych - and working as a trial consultant). For those who've gotten their psych PhD, do you think it's possible to work at the same time or does it really need to be a full-time commitment? TIA

I'm getting another type of doctorate full time while working, and I really admire you wanting to return to school while you have such a demanding job! Do you think you'd have time with your job though? Most PhD programs are full time, but may be possible to do nights/weekends...It might take 8 years though as opposed to 4 or 5 full time. Is your work schedule flexible enough to allow you to leave to take night classes?

A few of my friends have been able to get out to take evening classes (not for a PhD though), but it isn't always easy given the unpredictability of our schedules.

For my Psy.D. program, our classes began at 4pm. Some girls did the first two years part-time, but by the third year, they needed to be full time in order to fulfill the field-experience requirements. In my program it would have been possible to work part time for the first couple of years, but difficult to do full time.

My PhD program was the same way. Since you are Social Psych though you probably won't have field-experience requirements right? I think your choice might depend on the program that is most conducive to it because there are definitely plenty of programs with only day classes.
