It is all the same.. There is a toddler formula for over 12 months. But most babies go right to milk..

I think the newborn formula is specialized with extra vitamin D in it and some other stuff specififcaly geared toward very new babies.

Re: formula - when do you switch from newborn to infant formula?
I think you meant to ask the difference between newborn and infant enfamil.
The only difference is the amount of vitamin D. Since most newborns don't drink 32 ounces a day, enfamil newborn has a greater amount of vitamin D per serving so since they're drinking less, they still get their daily amount of vitamin D since it's so important for a newborn.
But no other formulas do that, and it's not that big a deal if you start with the infant (yellow case) instead. At least that's my understanding. Enfamil newborn (the light blue case) is a very new creation.
If you have any newborn formula left over, though, you can still use it past 3 months. It's not a big deal to finish it up (in my case, I used the nursettes in emergencies or when we were out) since I had so many left over past 3 months. They are just so convenient!
We switched from the blue to the yellow case at exactly 3 months.

Yes it has more vitamin D in it. Since newborns dont' drink as many ounces per day, they need extra Vitamin D. Ask your ped- but I think by 3 months you can switch.

DS is 3 and a half months and we just switched him. We ran out of the newborn formula and instead of buying more, we switched to infant. His ped. said we would talk about switching him over at his 4 month appointment. We're just a little early.
