Formula Advice
DS is 6 weeks and has been on Simalac Advanced since the hospital....recently he started having some poop issues and became really cranky and upset every time he had to go, and his poop was muddyish (sorry TMI). I also started to notice more gas and fussiness at night time (more than usual).
So I called my pediatrician and she said to try Gentlease, I started it last night and all day today and he has been MISERABLE!! I am talking about crying every half hour or so and screaming bloody murder in between bottle
Usually he had been easygoing/happy and would only get fussy if he had gas or had to poop, and would only cry if hungry nothing like what I am seeing now!
So my question is should I stop the Gentlease and go back to the Simalac or should I stick with the Gentelase?? I have an appointment on Wednesday, but am so confused as to what to do until then?? I feel so terrible for him!
Any advice will definitely help me!!
Thanks

Re: Formula Advice
We had the same issues. We switched to Good Start, but didnt see a change until a week or 10 days! I think one day isnt long enough to really know if its the formula. Also are you mixing forumlas? When we first switched we did the transition in 3 days mixing hte formula and then the 4th day he got all good start.

Today I only did the Gentlease all day...I really think he hates it and that its not enough substance for him since it is only a powder?? Ughh this is so hard!!

Re: Formula Advice
Maybe try similac sensitive? My dd had the same issues and we switched her to that. Since then she had been a happy baby.

Often babies will reject a new taste that they arent used to. My Dr even said that today regarding starting new foods with DS. I would mix it with the similac for 3 days. Do 1/4 new 3/4 similac Day 1. Then gradually increase the new until on the 4th day its all new. Then they dont notice the taste as much because it was a gradual change.
Or call the Dr tomorrow and explain your observations and ask about the Sensitive or Good Start, it took DS 7-10 days to really see the difference but now he is nearly gas free and sooo happy! Remember you have been giving DC this formula for weeks you can't expect their systems to clean out in only 1 day.

Re: Formula Advice
Thanks for your advice Girls...I think I am going to call the ped. about switching to the Simalac Sensitive because I just gave him the Advanced and he drank 5 1/2ozs (usually does 4ozs) in less than 1/2 hour and is now sitting here cooing like crazy!! If she recommends the Sensitive I will introduce it gradually!!
Thank You Again!

Re: Formula Advice
Also have you tried the Mylicon drops. Alot of women have success with those. It might help a bit.

Similac Senstive is the same thing as Gentlease.
When we switched it took at least a week, if not 10 days for it to make a difference.

See that's the weird thing.... I thought that the Similac Sensitive was the same as the Gentlease, but, DD has had better reactions to it.... I no longer have to give her gas drops with it, and I did have to with the Gentlease....

Re: Formula Advice
I was BF my DS for the first 2 months, when I switched him to formula I gave him Similac Advance. I don't know if it was the BF or the formula but he seemed very gassy and fussy. When I switched him to Similac Sensitive it all changed, it definitely agreed with him.
Give it a try. Good luck!

Re: Formula Advice
My dd had similar issues, my doctor said to switch to Similac Alitmentum. I had tried the Gentleease as well, it didn't work well for my dd either. The Alimentum really helped! It's a little on the pricey side, but she never really had an issue after that.
Good luck!!

I'm having the same issue with Rylan. I tried the Gentlease for one bottle but because it only comes in a powdered form I couldn't get him to drink it...he was gagging and refusing it.
I'm having major formula issues and have no idea what to do either. Right now i'm debating between Good Start which I can't find the recommended one in RTF or Alimentum.

Re: Formula Advice
I went through the SAME THING.
Good Start (purple can) was the ONLY thing that helped.
