Formula options BESIDES soy for DD who seems to be allergic to cow's milk formula....
DD's skin breaks out really bad when she is on cow's milk formula. I switched her to soy and she cleared up, but I've been a little worried by some research I've done on soy formula and I would like to switch her to a hypoallergenic or hydrolyzed-protein formula.
Can anyone recommend a formula for babies with cow's milk allergies? TIA!!

Enfamil Nutramigen. DS was on it for a while before ProSobee. It is much more expensive.

DD is on Enfamil Nutramigen as well. It is covered by our insurance since it's for a milk allergy.
Don't know if this is an option for you, but thanks to the ladies on this board I found Nutramigen is often covered by your medical insurance (depends on your company plan) since its used for babies with an allergy to milk protein.
I called Apria Healthcare (1-877-536-8372 - they are a medical supplier) and you give them your insurance info and they contact your insurance and find out for you. Its a 5 minute call and you will find out within 48 hours. If your plan does cover it, your doctor needs to send a letter of medical necessity and a prescription. I get a supply delivered every month for free.
I called my insurance first and they said they didn't cover it, but I guess Apria knows the right people to talk to and found out it is covered 100%. It's worth a try.
Good luck

First we went to Allimentum (similar to Nutramigen) which is cow's milk based but the milk proteins are predigested, which makes it easier for a lot of babies to tolerate. This is more expensive, but available alongside regular formula in most stores.
That didn't work for my son, so we had to move to Neocate, which is amino acid based and truly hypoallergenic. It is crazy expensive and virtually impossible to find in stores. You have to get it mail order, or we have a prescription for it as it's covered by our insurance since he needs it and the pharmacy orders it for us.

Thanks...
does anyone know the difference between Enfamil Gentlease and Enfamil Lactose-free? If DD's skin breaks out with regular Enfamil, should I try Gentlease or Lactose-free first? So many options....I want to try these options before I go to the Nutrimagen or something similar...

Gentlease is still milk based. It's just broken down more and made with Whey proteins I believe.

I think Similac Sensitive used to be Similac Laco Free.
Gentlease is still milk based, just with partially broken down milk proteins.
If you do go Nutramigen and want it covered by insurance, you need a letter of medical necessity from your ped
