formula: powdered vs ready to use
Is there a difference? Would you use powdered with a newborn or wait until a certain age?

i used the rtf until i ran out of the samples from the hospital (i was there awhile - so i had a LOT). then i got some of the bottles of it from BRU....it was just convenience...

I found the ready made to be thicker and it fill my son up longer than the powder I mixed. Also he would spit up the powder but not the ready made so I stuck with ready made mostly.

We used the RTF from the hospital. Then my parents bought us a case of it, and we had been given gift cards, so I used the gift cards for RTF formula & diapers. When the gift cards ran out, I switched to powder because it's cheaper.
The only difference I see is that the powder had more bubbles, resulting in more gas for DD. I started mixing it with the Dr. Brown's pitcher, and that eliminated a lot of the bubbles.
I asked the pediatrician yesterday if there was any difference at all, and she said the only difference is in price.

I personally like the powdered better. I can leave the bottles of water out at room temp. put in some formula shake and were ready. I dont have to worry about heating it up or anything and its great for when were out.

me too, its sooo convenient, no need to get out of bed for nighttime feedings, just pour in the powder and shake. We used RTF for the first week or so while we had the bottles from the hospital, then made the switch with no problem.

We use the RTF because DS had a lot of gas on the powder and it made his reflux worse. The thickness of the RTF makes it settle more in his stomach and he doesn't spit up anymore. I'm just sorry it took me so long to figure that out.

that's what i always did. i didn't like RTF because i had to get the chill out of it and i never warmed his bottles. i had a few samples from the ped and hospital but once those were done, i didn't buy RTF at all anymore.
i will do the same with DD in a few weeks

Same with us. Didn't have to worry about refrigeration or anything. Much more convenient.

us too. we used powder once the rtf sample bottles from the hospital ran out. I found them to be a lot more convenient. I really didnt want to have to heat up a bottle in the middle of the night. the powder is so much easier

we used the Ready to use formula from the hospital and then we switched to powdered. I found the powder to be WAY easier

thanks for all of the replies...I think I bought my last case of RTF today, and when the supply runs out I'll use the powder. Great idea about getting the Dr. Brown's Pitcher, too! One more question: are you mixing the formula with tap water, bottled water, purified water?

We've been using boiled tap water.

I boil the tap water. Maybe I'm cheap, but I refuse to spend the extra $$$$ on bottled water.

i really disliked powder for my DS. i tried to switch numerous times but i felt it was annoying, powder would clog nipple, be lumpy in certain places... he is 11 months and we still use RTF....

We just started formula recently at 4 months (I BFed until then) and DS takes the RTF wonderfully. The powered was causing him a lot of gas. The pediatrician recommended RTF which is working wonderfully!

I asked the pediatrician about the necessity of boiling the water...she said not necessary and that i can just use filtered water (Brita). So much easier than boiling!!!
