Ready made formula
The nurse at the hospital gave me a bunch of the similiac ready made formula in the 2 oz bottles to supplement my BF. I forgot to ask her how long those bottles were good for though. If he only has a little of it can I save the rest or do I discard whatever he doesn't eat at each feeding? He only takes a tiny amt so it's such a waste.
TIA

Re: Ready made formula
As long as you don't open them or refrigerate them I think they are good for quite awhile.

Re: Ready made formula
If you pour it into it's own bottle you can save the rest. The similac big bottles say use in 48 hours.
I wouldn't save the bottle if he drank directly from it. If he doesn't finish what is in a bottle within a hour - I throw it away.
Got this off similac's site Cover opened cans of Ready To Feed and Concentrated Liquid formula with aluminum foil or plastic overcaps and store in the refrigerator. Use the formula within 48 hours.

Re: Ready made formula
If he drank from it I would throw out any unused formula within the hour.

Re: Ready made formula
What do you think if I maybe pour the contents of the bottle into tupperware and use only half at a time in another bottle? Then I could save the second half for the next day? Would that work

Re: Ready made formula
Yup, that would work. The problem is that once the formula has touched the nipple, some of the baby's saliva can get into the formula, and it will start to break down the formula in the bottle.

Re: Ready made formula
if he drinks from it the hospital told me to keep it for up to an hour or hour and a half no longer then that
if you pour it in to a different bottle then I would follow what the regualr size bottles say and thats use within 48 hours after opening
