Forum Sub-categories?? Your Opinions Please!!
Hello - i dont post that often but im always reading so forgive me for this long (and possibly out of place) post but i have a thought and wanted to see how you all felt.
So....the "infertility" forum is for women with all sorts of reproductive issues. However, i have a feeling it might be a hugely appreciated effort if possibly it could narrowed into sub-categories. For example (just to name a few- feel free to add):
Egg Donation PCOS Male Factor Unexplained Ovarian Failure Medical Related problems
Even though infertility usually has the same outcome for all cases, MANY of us are here for a mulitude of different reasons and i feel it may be beneficial to us to have our own(ish) spot to go to and chat with people in the same position as we are.
I have an issue where I will need to use Donor Eggs to have a baby - its an incredibly difficult and heart-breaking thing to go through and although i have come across a cple women on here who will have to go through the same as me, we dont have a place to call 'home' where we can go and just chat back and forth.
I feel that this forum is a wonderful and supportive resource for us women out there who are unable to, or are having difficulty, doing what women are supposed to do naturally - but sometimes when im on the boards and reading about women who are able to use their own eggs, it hurts me a bit and i feel the need to have a place where I can find women who have the same emotions i may have on that issue.
So this is just an idea - Please post your honest opinions.
Thanks - and best of luck to all!

It is a good idea in theory, but honestly if you start dividing everyone up, then where do you stop? And also, there will be a small # of women in each category, so those boards will move very slowly. I think the LIF community is too small to divide the IF board up.

I think that some people would fall into more than one category...I know myself would and if they made a category for my issues I would be allow! lol
I like that I can post a question and get different opinions from girls going through what I am going through and those that have not.

Re: Forum Sub-categories?? Your Opinions Please!!
Hi- welcome. I like the point of your idea, but I have to say that when we started on our IF journey, we didn't know very much, and I always found comfort in one forum where I could view everyone's posts and hope that anyone that could answer my post would. Though this could still be done by doing the board the way you're suggesting, I feel like it would make more work for people - or less work for some but in the less work, maybe others wouldn't get their questions answered. I have PCOS- and besides being on here I'm on SoulCysters... that's where I go to discuss all of my PCOS related things, though in the beginning I posted on here also, because it helped me to form relationships with people in a similar place, and I will still respond to others PCOS questions for this reason... but this forum gives me the opportunity to answer other people's questions that I might not have seen if they were categorized.

Re: Forum Sub-categories?? Your Opinions Please!!
I think this board is too small to subcategorize - there's only so many people here to begin with, and most of us know each other's stories, so we know who to go to when we have specific questions.
But, really, the beauty of this board is it's a place where we can all come together to support one another through this tremendously difficult journey, no matter how different our paths are. I fear if we were to split off we wouldn't have the same strength in support and solidarity that we have now.

Not sure if you have checked into any other forums at all- but I noticed that IVFconnections.com has something similar to what your saying...They have a general forum and then sub-categories

I guess my thought is a selfish one. Im looking for people in my specific situation with similar feelings and emotions.....For someone who knows what it is that im going through and the feelings one may have regarding using a donor egg. I thought that maybe others possibly felt the same way in their own specifi situations - i.e. sub-categorizing the forum.
your points have been well-received - thank you.

I noticed on TTC that they started their own miscarriage support group type thread. Maybe if there are others in your situation you could start a post which could turn into a support group type thread for what you're going thru.

sorry you have to go through this. I can only imagine what it feels like.
Hopefully you will have the reward of a beautiful baby soon.
I understand why you would want to sub-categorize but I agree with the other ladies. It's a small community to begin with here. We are happy to support you through this even though it's not that specific.

Did you try any of these?

This one is a support forum: http://www.inciid.org/forums/donor_support/index.html

Re: Forum Sub-categories?? Your Opinions Please!!
I know what you mean because I would LOVE to have a Vets board, but I think LIF is too small.
Like a pp mentioned, IVF connections, has a specific forum for donor egg and its a nationwide forum so you will have a bigger pool of people.
DE is a difficult decision, but comes with great rewards
