Forward facing car seat

Connor is 26.4 lbs and 31.5" long. He turned 1 on 8/28, can we switch his car seat to have him forward facing? His legs are always bent bc he is so long. What is the rule?

DS is 32.5 inches, his legs are bent too. Honestly I would try to keep him rear facing as long as possible, it's safer.

Re: Forward facing car seat

The new recommendation is to keep your DC rear facing until 2. Even with bent legs.

Apparently it doesn't have anything to do with weight or height. It has more to do with the spine being fully developed to support the weight of the head in a crash and apparently the longer you can keep them rear facing, the better.

This has been debated lots of times on this board!

Re: Forward facing car seat

I have giant kids and they both turned at 1 year. DD#1 is 9 and back then they were fine with turning them at one. I can tell you that DD#2(she is 2 1/2) is so big that if she was rear facing past a year, a hard tap on the breaks, and she would have knocked her teeth out with her knees.

Its one year AND 20 pounds....Not either/or...Now they recommend to keep them rear facing until 2.
