Foster Homes and Adopters needed

Hi All -

The rescue I am with , New York State Retriever Rescue , is in desperate need of some fosters home. I understand a lot of people are hesitant to adopt - but we can save so many more dogs lives if we had enough foster homes. Shelters down south reach out to us on a daily basis to get these dogs out of high kill shelters, but we can't take them if we don't have the room.

All of the dogs on the link are also available for adoption.

Thanks for looking Chat Icon

I would love to foster but I have been hesitant. I have two dogs, one is very old and I have been very concerned about introducing another dog in to the house. I also work and have kids and I am concerned about that dynamic. My biggest concern though is my older dog.

How old are your kids? If you have toddlers, we wouldn't place a dog in your home unless it came from a home with toddlers. It really depends on the type of dog. Some are mellow and are not in "in your face" type of dog around other dogs. Some dogs are are way too playful for an older dog.

Oh my adorableness!! We just rescued a black lab mix about 2 months ago and unfortunately we're bursting at the seams in our townhouse, so I can't help, but I REALLY hope you find some fosters or forever homes for these guys. They all look so sweet it kills me Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

5 & 7...I would never allow my kids to be around a dog, unsupervised, I didn't trust whether or not they had been with other kids. My old lady is an alpha so she is not always okay with other dogs. I read though the dogs' description and it makes me so sad to see how many owner surrenders there are.

I know. Its so sad.

If you decide you want to go forward with it - you can feel free to fill out a volunteer application and you can discuss it further. Typically we would call you and then come out to do a home inspection - just to make sure fence is secure, etc. At that point, after meeting your family we would consider our available dogs and see who may be a match. Totally up to you. I seriously appreciate your interest!!

I would be interested in some information as well. I currently have 2 cats, and two kids (4 and 2 years old).
