Re: Foster Parent

yes, DH & I have looked into it. THere is info on the suffolk county family services website, you can also get info from little flower childrens services.
There is a training program & background check & a home inspection that you have to complete.
Right now DH & I are both working very long days & we don't feel we'd be giving a child the most time, so in the future when my work hours change we'll proceed.

Re: Foster Parent

I think about it all the time but right now my schedule would never be able to accomodate another child... one day though.

i know someone who fostered a toddler, and wound up adopting him, and loves him very much!!!

Re: Foster Parent

Can I ask a personal question about Foster Parents? Do they get paid and is it alot?
I am not interested in doing it as my plate is full but I do know someone on another board who is one and wondered if they were paid.

Re: Foster Parent

Most foster parents get a stipend for the child and do receive monetary compensation. In NYC, there are "profession foster parents" or "special needs" foster parents who go for extra classes and will take in highly emotionally disturbed children. They receive a higher compensation.
