I cant. I JUST cant.

DH lets the garbage pile up in the garage. He has not taken the recycle cans out..lets just say since the holidays. Can I do it? Yes. But its HIS job.

And its his job if I REMIND him.

So yesterday we cleaned up MOST of the cardboard since today is cardboard recycle day. We broke it all down. Put it in my car and drove it to the curb (I have a LONG driveway).

When we ere unloading the cardboard I SAW it. A BIG, FAT GROWN cockroach. That means OTHER big fat GROWN cockroaches are there.....

I'm going to KILL my DH. If I see ONE more roach...ONE more...he is going to be a sacrificial lamb.

Oh best part? When unloading the car (and seeing the roach) I was like HOLY CRAP! We have to get the exterminator in..OMG....this is gross."

His response?????????????????

"We don't need to rush. Its only 1 roach.."

I swear to god if I didn't love him I would KILL him.

Addition: So last night I was taking a few things in from the car after dark. When I went to go outside I went to open the screen on the front door.

And there, on the INSIDE of the screen (aka: the business side, aka the INSIDE of the house) was a little cockroach just hanging out as pleasant as could be on my screen.

Done. SO DONE. LIKE IM MOVING DONE!!!!!

Exterminators are coming on Saturday.

DONE!!!!!!!!

Found a ROACH in my garage!!!!!

They probably came in with a cardboard box.

I learned long ago never to bring in boxes. Even the box that they give you at the Chinese restaurant to carry your food.

Ugh how horrific. I cringed reading your post.

We never keep boxes. When we get packages, we break down the box right away and throw it in a clear/blue recycle bag and throw it outside next to the garbage cans.

Found a ROACH in my garage!!!!!

Lord I hear you!
I have a bug contract .. every 3m they come and spray. Changed contracts once.. and 3m in I saw a roach.. ONE freaking roach and I swear I was on that phone shaking I was so angry. Got the same line "one roach" screw you buddy one roach is all it takes! and I pay good money for NO freaking roaches. To be fair it had probably come from a box that my father was storing in my house that had been sitting in a roach infested house for 3weeks. Or taken a ride on the box that brought in my fridge (who knows how long that stood in storage, right).

I didn't care. One roach is TOO MANY!

I actually had them come back and re-spray my house and exterior the next day AND then again 3 days later. Then I cancelled my contract a few months later and went back with the first one I had (because #1 I got matching price #2 they do interior wall application and most importantly #3 I had NEVER seen a roach in the 3 years with them).

When my parents got divorced and I had to live with roaches for a few months. I'm talking about coming out of the sink, on the walls, watch where you walk living with them. I learned lots about them (especially the ones that fly) and how to trap and literally play with them. I learned to LOVE lizards and spiders (even more) about that time as well. Thanks but as an adult I will NEVER have them (at least as much as I can help it!)

One roach is too too much! I'm angry FOR YOU!

if it makes you feel better this is an urban myth

Cockroaches produce eggs in a large case known as an ootheca, not one by one. The ootheca is comparatively huge.
This picture shows the ootheca of a German cockroach, and it is even bigger relative to the size of the roach. (http://www.protechtpc.com/germancockroach.jpg)

I won't link for the faint of heart. but imagine a sack the size of their whole back end part and hangs out the back end even further (you'll know when you see one)

The eggs aren’t able to hatch until well after they are sealed in the ootheca, and if the ootheca is broken the eggs won’t survive to hatch since it acts as an incubator. What that means is that you can’t spread the eggs around.

For the individual eggs to spread the ootheca would need to be broken killing the eggs.

so.. moral is

CRUSH THOSE F'ERS WITH YOUR SHOES! POUND THEM TO OBLIVION WITH NO PREJUDICE !

If you have a contract .. I'd have them come out a week later AGAIN (to be sure) because I hate them that much.

Are you in LI or NYC? I'm in NYC and we get the occasional huge roach (waterbug). My DH says to me all the time that they live in NYC because the houses are attached and that you will never find one in LI.

Spray some boric acid in the garage. It kills them.

Re: Found a ROACH in my garage!!!!!

DId you recently put down mulch? Could be a wood roach, which are not like german roaches. Also, could be a water bug if very large and they also don't reproduce like the german cockroach from what I have read.

This. It was most likely in a box.

I know when I worked at my aunt's ice cream/yogurt shop, we opened all deliveries outside to avoid bringing boxes in for that very reason.

Im confused as to what type of garbage you have had sitting since December -- just boxes? If so, Im sure it came with the boxes and will probably not be an issue. If it is regular garbage too -- then im sure there are more where that came from.

We had mostly boxes of just boxes (shipments, moving etc) We had SOME pizza boxes with no "food". Maybe SOME crumbs? We also have about 15 blue recycle bags of soda cans. So these definitely was something there for them to look at and enjoy.

Exterminator is coming on Saturday!

Ok but odds are if it didn't run fast when it saw you, or if it was in the light, it wouldn't be a german roach (the ones we are all afraid of getting since they multiply like crazy). Odds are it was a wood roach, which would be found in moist areas, in mulch, around your home, etc. They do NOT like to live inside, they only can survive in moist conditions and don't multiply like crazy.

We had fresh mulch put down a few years ago and I found one near my back door. It was dead. Probably dried out since it wasn't in the mulch anymore. They do look similar to the german roach, but since he was dead, I examined him carefully and he clearly was different under a magnifying glass. I never got an exterminator and never saw another one again. So don't be panicking that it's a house roach. They wouldn't like the be seen, or they run very fast. Did this guy run when you came close?
Wood roaches don't live in a home, so maybe thats what you have (again, if he didn't try to hide, or run fast when you came near, I doubt it's the dreaded house roach).

I never take that box in. I empty the contents in my garage and bring the food in separately. I even hate to take the box in my car. I hate when they give boxes!
