Found a stray kitten UPDATE***
Thank you all for your responses! Unfortunately, adopting it is not an option as 2 of my children have severe cat/dog allergies resulting in asthma However, the good news is, that Last Hope Animal Rescue is going to help me. For now, we are fostering it outside (its safely in the garage and the yard). She is going to get back to me today about when they can take it... she said it would be no later than Friday.
This baby is the sweetest thing. Rolls around at our feet, follows my kids around the yard and purring up a storm. She is super friendly and just a mushball. I know that whoever ends up adopting her will LOVE her.
Poor thing came right up to our door crying. He/she is about 6 or 7 weeks old. I don't know what to do! Bring him/her to a shelter? Will they kill it? Do we adopt it? Ignoring it is not an option.
Suggestions?

Re: Found a stray kitten
if it is that young, if you are able to bring it inside it would be best. get dry food and a can of wet. you might have to bottle feed it. more then likely it will be fine on its own. give just a little water at a time, too make sure it does not get its nose in the water. check to make sure it is not hurt . call a vet and see if you can get it looked over. if you can keep it great. otherwise please think about forstering it till a home can be found. gl

Re: Found a stray kitten
If you are unable to keep it, I would check out the North Shore Animal League. They are not a kill shelter! I think kittens get adopted pretty fast there.

Re: Found a stray kitten
Contact a local vet and bring him or her to get checked out to figure out the age and what feeding method is appropriate, until you know where the kitten can go (shelter, rescue, private home, etc).
I applaud you for helping this kitten.

Re: Found a stray kitten
Keep it..
if not bring it to my vet.
Plainview Animal Hospital..they have kittens and adopt them out.
But first choice is keep it.
How cute, so little!

Re: Found a stray kitten
I agree, too. I never imagined myself as a cat owner, but I have to say, if a little kitty showed up crying at my door, I think I'd have to keep her.
