Found a tick in Ann's scalp this morning

Was just dropping her off at daycare, touched the back kof her head and felt something. Chat Icon

I've removed tons from our dogs over the years but was a little nervous about doing this.

We couldn't find tweezers at daycare, so I called the pediatrician's office and they said I could bring her in during walk-ins or do it myself. I ended up taking her in because I wasn't sure how she'd react.

She ended up not even noticing when the doc removed it and they think it was a dog tick, not a deer tick but they will send it out to be tested anyway.

Re: Found a tick in Ann's scalp this morning

Was it engorged?

I found a tick walking on my DDs scalp in March after coming in from our yard.

I got it off, we had just come in so it didn't attach.

As long as the ped is checking it, it's ok. She could have gotten it outside or the dogs or anyone could have brought it in. My DD was in my very messy yard in March...and we have woods near us so I know she got it like that. We have since cleaned up, and are cleaning up alot...to minimize ticks.

Hope all goes ok.Chat Icon

BTW, I bought a tick remover at Petco...I actually have 2. One is a tweezer and one is a thing to pull off engorged ticks. I just want to be prepared.

Just curious, you felt the bump but when you looked what did it look like?

It was not engorged and the doc said based on how easily it came out, it probably had not been there too long.

She had a bath last night and I did not feel it when I washed her hair (but I can't say with 100% certainly it wasn't).

Maddie is on Frontline but I've found two ticks in the house (one in my BED Chat Icon and one in our bathroom) recently.

Oh, so when I looked to see what the bump was, it was obvious right away it was a tick - his legs were all moving Chat Icon

Based on what I just googled, I'd say it was this:

blech! i made DH inspect my scalp after being outside over the weekend bc I felt a bump...luckily it was just a mosquito bite.

We buzzed Logan's head this weekend, you should do the same for Ann Chat Icon

Re: Found a tick in Ann's scalp this morning

We've had tons of issues with ticks lately. I live on a big lot that is very wooded and grassy. Our dogs are on advantix but we were still seeing ticks in our house and two on one of my sons(not attached) My husband actually got Lymes disease. Luckily we caught it early. This is not smething I am a proponent of but we ended up getting a treatment of these pellets that are spread by water. That was a week ago and we haven't seewn one since.

Already I have found one in my son's head and I had a deer tick on me. We haven't had ticks on any of us for years, it seems like ticks are very bad this year.

Re: Found a tick in Ann's scalp this morning

its bad this year, I was bit by a tick last month........

My brother was bit when he was like 18mos old, and ended up with lyme disease, but they caught it early and he is now 23 with no residual effects from it.

After I found one in me this year, Ive become super vigilant about checking DS all the time. If they have been attached less than 12 hours (i think it is), the chance of them passing anything on is very very slim.

Good luck!

I bought a product called Daminnix. It treats your yard safely....I plan on putting it down soon. I hear it works wonders.

Re: Found a tick in Ann's scalp this morning

I found a deer tick on DD last weekend and it scared the heck out of me. I did find out that a tick needs to be feeding on you for at least 24-48 hours before they can transfer lyme disease. Apparently the blood they take in triggers the disease and it can't be transferred just by the first bite.
