Ok, I am pasting the info I found.... from what I see, after we reach the max step, 8b, the following year they look to see how long we have been teaching in the DOE and if it is 5 yrs, we get the 5 long.... 10 yrs.... the 10 long etc. Please correct me if I got that wrong.

What happens after I reach the maximum salary step?

After the maximum step is reached (8B for teachers, guidance counselors, school secretaries and laboratory specialists or 7B for school psychologists and social workers), longevity increases are granted for 5, 10, 13, 15, 18, 20, and 22 years of service in NYC public schools.
