Franklin Square SD vs. Valley Stream SD 13

Any opinions on these? Which one is better? Why? We're looking at houses in Franklin Square and both these school districts are popping up. I know Frank Square SD is good (house we like is zone for Polk Ave school) but I don't know anything about VS SD 13. If SD 13 is good are all schools in that district good or is there one in particular I should look for?

Thank you! Chat Icon

I used to live in VS. The schools were great then, but I think they have changed a lot since then. Check out Great Schools GL!

Both the Franklin Square and VS District 13 have excellent schools. I live in FS but I am zoned for VS district 13. The District 13 schools are very sought after...so much so that this fact is listed with the house listings in that zone. I live off of Dogwood Avenue in the "Dogwood Estates" or the "Morton Estates" section of FS (south of Hempstead Tpke).

My son goes to the Willow Road Elementary school which is excellent. In FS's district, the Washington Street school is also great.

If you have any more questions, please feel free to FM me.

When I rented there...and hoped to buy a house in the area I was focusing more on VS #13 SD. I think the schools are better and the homes are much better. JMHO though.Chat Icon

Good luck!

Depends how much your looking to spend.
Houses in my area have a HUGE range. You can get an ORIGINAL OWNED ranch which basically means knock it down and start all over again for about $450 or you can get a converted ranch turned into a McMansion for $900+. Basically, the median range for houses in this part of FS is about $525+++.

But there are lots of nice ones for sale.

Thanks! We're looking up to $575k (depends on taxes too). Let me know if you see anything. Preferably a ranch or something that has all bedrooms (or at least 3) one one floor. Thank you. Chat Icon I've been looking on MLS, but didn't see anything that says Morton Estates. Are there RE agents in that area that only do exclusives? I'm already working with an agent who will show me MLS properties but if there's a local agent in your area who deals with exclusives, I'd love to sign up with him/her.

You should contact Kathleen Evangelista from Prudential. She is AMAZING and she lives right in this area (around the block from me). She gets almost ALL of the listings in this area. You can tell her Valerie and Russ recommended her. She is the NICEST woman and soooooo down to earth. Her # is 516- 354-6500 and her cell is 516-456-9278.

You should find something nice here for $575. Taxes usually range from the 6's to 12+...depending on the size of the house. I have a 3 bedroom ranch with a large extension and I pay over $10,000 before exemptions.
