Freedom of the Seas - Advise
We are leaving next month out of Puerto Rico on a 7 night cruise. Any advise on the ship what to do or see? Any excursions worth going to do?
Here's the itinerary - San Juan , Puerto Rico | Philipsburg , St. Maarten | Basseterre , St. Kitts & Nevis | St. Johns , Antigua | Castries , St. Lucia | Bridgetown , Barbados | San Juan , Puerto Rico
We haven't booked anything yet. Just have the late seating for dinner with another family friends. Kids are 9, 9, 7 and 6. Two boys and two girls.
Thanks!

I had great tours with private tour operators in St. Lucia and St. Kitts. In St. Lucia, DH & I were the only ones on the tour and we saw a lot of the island. He was very personable and we really enjoyed ourselves: James Touring Service Trip Advisor reviews
In St. Kitts, we had 6 ppl, I think, and it was a great day. The tour guide took us to a bunch of places, including the batik factory, which was beautiful, and to a point where you can see the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean at the same time: Thenford Grey Tours Trip Advisor reviews

Re: Freedom of the Seas - Advise
We just went to St. Maarten on the Disney Cruise in August. We docked at Phillisburg, and took a taxi at a cost of $5 each person each way to Divi Little Bay Resort. It's about 10 minutes to the resort. The taxi will drop you off, you go right onto the beach where they have chairs and umbrellas to rent for $5 each ($15 for 2 chairs and an umbrella). They will set them up where you want. We walked down the beach to the little shack they had that sold tubes and floats, got 2 tubes for $5 each and a noodle...and they blow them up there! The beach was AWESOME there! So sandy, turquoise water and so empty!
There were about 10 people total there. We were there from around 9am to 5pm. We had a blast! Most people go on excursions through the ship, but I felt super comfy doing this alone with my 2 kids. You can also rent jet skis there, snorkel (you have to go further out for that and near the beach shack thing). There is a bar on the beach with a talking Parrot, loved him! They have outdoor showers to rinse off. There is an ice cream shop on property that also has sandwiches and drinks and it's inexpensive.
I had researched this before we went, and it just sounded too good to be true...not having to pay a per person fee, etc. But it really is exactly how I said! No advance booking of anything required! I'll post a few pics for you
Much of the island is still devastated from the hurricane. Our taxi driver said that insurance companies aren't paying to rebuild. It was pretty sorry looking when we were driving to the resort. The resort itself is one of the few that have opened back up. He did say their "busy" season was in the winter here. I would actually go back to Little Divi for a vacation, we just really enjoyed it! So laid back and low key.
You could also go to Maho Beach to see the airplanes take off, but we were told they don't have many flights a day, so you have to time it well. It's a tiny beach, and really only good for a photo op for the planes IMO (google it)

Usually the ship tells you the excursions you can select from for each island. It may be easier to narrow it down that way, instead of asking about the islands. I would see what they are offering and then choose from what is still open, cost, your likes/dislikes and the ages of the kids involved.

Re: Freedom of the Seas - Advise
Did you go yet? I am assuming yes. How was it?
This was one of my first cruises years ago but on Serenade of the Seas, & we did St. john instead of St. Kitts. It was a great trip and Ive been on Freedom too, which is a great ship.
