Freezing baked ziti
I've never done this but would like to try. How do I do it? I have a bunch of questions lol:
Can I put it in a disposable aluminum pan?
Do I just assemble it and leave it unbaked?
When I'm ready to eat, do I just throw it in the oven or defrost first?
TIA!!!

Re: Freezing baked ziti
you mean before it's baked? i've only frozen it baked... usually it's leftovers and we freeze it in various tupperware. then defrost it the day of and/or just reheat in the microwave.

Re: Freezing baked ziti
I would bake it first. Plastic freezer backs would probably be best for preventing freezer burn. I always defrost it in the fridge and then heat it in the microwave.

Re: Freezing baked ziti
i would definitely NOT bake it first... assemble, freeze then pop in the oven. you can thaw first, or just put it in the oven which will take longer.

Re: Freezing baked ziti
Every time I make a batch of ziti, but split it in 2 glass pyrex baking dishes.. I bake both and freeze 1 (w/ wax paper, plastic wrap +the lid to the dish). The day I want to use it, I take it out in the morning and just leave it out so it's mostly thawed by the time I get home

Re: Freezing baked ziti
Thank you for the responses. I'm confused as to what to do lol. I keep reading NOT to cook it first, but if so many of you do it and it's fine I don't see what the difference is. I have it in one of those aluminum trays. Can I just cover with plastic wrap and aluminum foil? Maybe I'll transfer it to something else.

You can put pyrex in the freezer, just make sure the dish is not HOT when you put in freezer & make sure it's not frozen when you put in oven. (Just can't go from one extreme temp to the other).
