Freezing Basil?

I bought Basil this weekend to make fresh sauce and need to know if I can freeze it as I only need to use 3 leaves for the sauce and think it would be a shame to throw the whole thing away.

Also...where does everyone store their garlic and onions?

Re: Freezing Basil?

Garlic & Onions are stored in a wicker basket and thrown out if we don't use them w/in a week.

Yes, you can freeze basil...I freeze a lot of my "fresh" garnishes.

Re: Freezing Basil?

You can freeze it. I either put it in a ziploc baggie or container. It does darken in color but the taste will not be affected.

Onions and garlic are a drawer in the fridge.

Re: Freezing Basil?

We put our garlic and onions in the fridge. The onions last a week or two. The garlic at least 2 weeks.

Re: Freezing Basil?

I just wanted to share this.... I found frozen basil and cilantro at Trader Joes. They are in little cubes and you just pop them out and use as you need it. They are great!
