fresh local farm produce suffolk
where can i find a farm stand or buy fresh local produce from a farm in the medford area? I'd be willing to go farther out east too like 30 minutes max though, maybe like the riverhead area. In the summer I see alot around not sure where I can still go now.

Theres a farm stand on middle country road, just east of the Smithaven Mall. It's on the right when headed east. Small place, but they claim to have local produce and open year round. They have the most amazing home made crumb cakes too. They are to die for!

Maybe I'm ignorant, but I am truly curious about this. What can be grown locally in the winter? I can't imagine anything right?

I can't imagine what. Maybe they do it in greenhouses. I don't know and can't vouch for its accuracy. I just love the crumbcake.
Oh, and they make amazing home made mozzarella.

Lots of places use greenhouses now.
Plus they sell from storage. In winter you can usually still find winter squash, kale, cabbage, turnips, parsnips, garlic, sometimes apples, etc.
Not a big selection but still something.

There's a farm stand right across from the new target on broadway in sayville. They may have winter squash and other stuff.
I think there's another farm stand inside one of the nurseries in sayville, maybe on gillete but I'm not sure. I haven't been in there in a while and only in summer.

Thera Farms is the only farm with a greenhouse oroducinf in the winter on LI. They only have lettuce. Sang Lee has a winter CSA share, as does Garden of Eve. Those are all organic farms, I'm not sure anot conventional because we don't eat anything but organic.

Re: fresh local farm produce suffolk
There is also an indoor farmers market besides Riverhead, Although I can't remember for the life of me the name. I doubt they have much produce right now.
