Front load washer/dryer....capacity and detergent
We're considering a front load washer and dryer. A lot of them say the washer is 3.5 cu ft capacity. How is that size compared to the traditional washers with agitators. Also, do you have to use the HE detergent and if so how much does it cost?

I do know that you have to use the HE detergent. I learned that on here.

Is that larger then the traditional washers?

Oh yes much larger... Just imagine a top loader with the agitator removed... All that new space for more items..

I hate the front load washer---I feel my clothes never gets clean--you do have to use (he) laundry detergent

Although I love my front load washer, I do miss the fact that I can't soak anything for a period of time.

Do you have a pause button on yours?
Also a few of the newer Front Loaders now have that soak feature.

we have the whirlpool cabrio set- they are HE and super capacity but are top loading, so they have the pre soak feature... we LOVE them! you do have to use the HE detergent though, its a little pricier than regular detergent, but it seems to last longer because you use less of it.

Re: Front load washer/dryer....capacity and detergent
If your on metered water or have a cesspool. Top Loader use about 45 gallons while Front Loader use around 15.
So 3 loads of laundry in a front loader = one load in a top loader...
5 loads a week comes to
Top Loader: 225 Gallons Front Loader: 75 Gallons
52 weeks later (1 Year)
Top Loader: 11,700 gallons "enough to fill a built in swimming pool". Front Loader: 3,900 gallons

I have the Pause button, but how do I know when the bleach has been released into the drum?
I wonder if my instructions say anything about. Guess I should read them.
I definitely don't have a soak option. That would have been nice!

That's not true. My top loader is HE and energy efficient. It uses less water than a regular top loader that has an agitator. The amount of clothes I put in there determines the amount of water usage. So if I put in 3 things, it only uses enough water to cover those 3 things. That's pretty efficient to me.
Once the clothes are wet through and collapsed it then washes, so if it's full to the top with clothes and then I add something a minute later, it's already collapsed those clothes to determine water usage.

yup! same with ours- we have a top loading HE washer ( whirlpool cabrio) its just as efficient with water as the front loaders.

Re: Front load washer/dryer....capacity and detergent
I love my front load- I can easily fit a full/queen comforter in there! And the dryer time is cut back considerably since it spins everything so quick, clothes aren't that wet when you take them out.

Re: Front load washer/dryer....capacity and detergent
I have a 4.0 cu ft front loader. It was the biggest at the time we bought it last year. I do think they make slightly bigger now. It can fit a King comforter in there, but I feel like it leaves no room for it to really wash, KWIM?? And I learned the hard way that even though my washer can handle a King-size comforter, my dryer can't
My washer does have a pre-soak feature.

Talking about regular top loaders..... Not HE anything.

Re: Front load washer/dryer....capacity and detergent
How about the ones that are less then 4.0 (like 3.2 or 3.5) do they still fit a decent amount of clothes?

Re: Front load washer/dryer....capacity and detergent
We just got the Whirlpool Duet steam front loader washer and dryer.
Its definatey differnet than what i am used to. I hate to do laundry, i like how it looks, its aspen green. and its all digital and stuff.
I dont get the steam feature. but i wanted it because the color we wanted only came in steam.
I have just used quick wash cycle cause its shorter. There are some cycles that are very very long.
The HE detergent doesnt get all sudsy like the regular stuff, i can see how people say stuff doesnt come clean, cause it doesnt have the agitator.
We got an extended warranty on them, because i have a feeling something may break because they are so new.
