Re: Front loading washer/dryer
The only thing that I don't like about the front loading washer is that you cannot open it once the cycle has started. (It came with the house we bought.)
I don't know anything about different types, so no recommendations...

I can actually pause mine so I can open it and add/take out something and then it starts back up where it left off.Image Attachment(s):

Re: Front loading washer/dryer
We've got an LG washer and it's fantastic. It's so quiet, I have to put the sound timer on to know when the clothes are done.
We opted not to get the matching dyer for cost reasons. Plus the sales guy told us that there isn't much benefit in front vs top loader dyers.

I love mine. the normal cycle on the washer and dryer are the same... 34 minutes, so when you are doing multiple loads, there is less of a chance of a backlog with the dryer.
I can also pause mine as well. They are the Whirlpool Duet Image Attachment(s):

ditto! Ours came with the house and I am not sure of the brand or type... but my only complaint is you canno open the washer after strting the cycle.

Re: Front loading washer/dryer
I have a horror story to share. I had a Maytag Neptune, one of the original ones. It grows mold on the inside and finally broke down one day. There was a huge law suit you can find information about by googling it.
I have the Kenmore (made by Whirlpool) front loader now and I love it.
