Frozen washcloths for teething?
I have read that you can freeze washcloths and give them to DC when they are teething. My DS must be teething. He's drooling like crazy and constantly chomping on everything. But, there is nothing visible so I know it may be a long while before he gets any teeth (he'll be 4 months next week). I have heard about the teething tablets, but don't want to overuse them since he seems very happy still.
Has anyone used washcloths? Do they help? How long do they stay cold? How much do you wet? I'm just not really sure what to do and if they will help. Thanks for any advice!

Re: Frozen washcloths for teething?
Not sure about the washcloths, but I am in the same exact boat! My DS is going to be 4 months soon and he must be teething as well. The drool is insane, everything goes right to the mouth, he's pulling on his ears, his cheeks are rosy and his sleeping pattern is off! He's not overly cranky yet, but I think it will happen soon and I'd love to know how to help.

Re: Frozen washcloths for teething?
I do that with my daughter and the ped I worked for when I was younger used to suggest it. Depending on where my daughter was in her teething dictated what kind of wash cloth I used. Beginning of teething I used infant washcloth, the ones that had least amount of nap. As the teething got worse the nappier the washcloth I got. I would wet the wash cloth and wring it out and put in the freezer. It stayed cold for awhile when it came out.
I used this in place of teething tablets and orajel. I don't like to give meds unless necessary and when I was talking to my hospital roommates hubby, who is an EMT, he explained he didn't like orajel because it numbed the tongue and could numb the gag reflex.
If you have the pacifier from the hospital, the soothie you can also put water in that one part and freeze that we used to do that too.
Hope that helps.

Re: Frozen washcloths for teething?
I did this all the time. DD loved frozen washcloths and softer rubber toys to rub her gums on. (I think that had something to do with the counter pressure the rubber provides.) She hated toys meant for teething.

We do it all the time lately. She doesn't like to hold it because it is too cold so I hold it and she chomps away. I think it really helps!

Re: Frozen washcloths for teething?
My sister told me to do the wet washcloth, she did with her 3 kids and they loved it. its alot better than using those teething rings that have the fluid in them.. they say you shouldnt freeze those b/c the possiblity of them leaking.

Re: Frozen washcloths for teething?
DD actually preferred frozen teething rings before her teeth came through. The washcloth did help but when she got cranky - the teething tablets worked best for us.
This was another big hit even after she started getting teeth. She could bite down and not worry about breaking the fluid out of the frozen ones.

Re: Frozen washcloths for teething?
I've heard this works, and when DS first began teething he liked the washcloths, but now that the teeth are really coming out, he does not. He doesn't like cold teethers (or warm ones) either, but I think most kids like these things.

I think my DS would love that. He likes all the textured teething toys cold from the refrigerator.

Re: Frozen washcloths for teething?
you are supposed to wet and freeze just the corners of the wash cloth, so they can hold the non frozen part. Anyway, my DD never even wanted to try it. She'd rather chew on everything other than her teething toys

Re: Frozen washcloths for teething?
I massaged his gums with the frozen washcloth(weird though that I always call it facecloth)...
nurse told me to freeze a banana and let him chew on that as well.
