FSA card problems... Anyone have this happen?
Anyone familiar with wage works and FSA.
Last year our FSA was a huge pain. We got a debit card but it could only be used for pharmacy purchases. We had to pay copays at the Drs. out of pocket and then submit to be reimbursed. It took a while to get reimbursed too.
We got something recently saying now we CAN use it for copays. DH called the other day they assured him our cards were valid, money in the account and just to pay with the card at the doctors. I took DD to the ped yesterday. Card is declined. Had to pay oop. DH calls the company. They say no problem THEIR end it is the fault of the drs office. They did not file the proper paperwork with the IRS to accept any FSA cards. Call office they say that is for pharmacies. They have never done that. The card company has the problem. Call card company back. They tell DH that is not true. It is not an issue on their end. Try the card elsewhere. Back to another office today ( eye dr for DD). Try to pay our copay...sorry your card has been declined. Again DH calls and is told it is this offices fault. Any office that does not file paperwork with the IRS to accept FSA will be declined. I tell this office and they say they have no idea for ever they have been taking FSA cards and only egg declines when the card is cancelled or funds not in yet. The woman in front of me paid with a FSA debit card.
Anyone had this happen? I need to be able to use this card. After paying $1600 a month for the insurance with $30 and $50 copays. It is hard to pay out of pocket for money already set aside....then having to wait a while to get the money back. Especially with sick kids and specialist visits. They basically told my husband they can do nothing and we just cannot use it any those offices...one of which is my ped.

Ugh that stinks! Can you talk to the benefits manager at his job? Surely you're not the only one with the problem and it sounds like it could be a mess!

They definitely doesn't sound right. We have Wageworks and never had a problem using the debit card at the doctor's office. Granted I haven't used it this year yet, but last year it was seamless. I could see if maybe one doctor wasn't set up correctly, but 2? Definitely call the Benefits Dept and have them look into it. These debit cards are supposed to be able to be used for any copays - not just pharmacy.
That really sucks! Hope they get this straightened out for you quickly!

The card last year was apparently set up just for pharmacy. The paperwork said it could only be used there and copays had to be submitted. The paperwork we got this year said it changed and can now be used at pharmacy and drs offices. They swear up and down when he calls that the money is there and that we can use the card at any drs office BUT the drs office has to file with the IRS to be eligible to take FSA cards? The offices are looking at me like I am crazy when I tell them this. DH looked found something that says drs offices do not have to file only places like eye glasses, etc. I feel like at a dead end as card place won't budge and insists this is the rule. Drs offices have zero clue what we are talking about ( per office managers).
It is a smaller office not huge company. They usually tell DH to call the company. Very nice but not very helpful.

This shows something about verification. We had that with another company but you used the card, then submitted the receipt. The card shows declined and says cancelled on the receipt. The company says card is not cancelled, it is valid. It was declined bc they are not an approved FSA place. One is a peds office...copay for sick visit. The other dr eye office. Specialist copay and refraction fee. So eligible places and expenses. Frustrating because I cannot even use it and then prove it was a qualified expense.
