FTWM to SAHM
If you went back to work and then became a SAHM how long did you go back to work before stopping?
My maternity leave ends this week and i start back on Monday...eventually I want to be a SAHM but I just can't not go back to work or quit right away (I have a great relationship with my boss and just wouldn't do that to him) so I am trying to see how long I can make it - hoping through the end of the year - and wanted to see how it went for others. Thanks!

Re: FTWM to SAHM
I went back to work for 3 school years! My daughter was 3 when I became a SAHM, and I worked and commuted to Bushwick, Brooklyn all that time where I was a Special Ed Teacher.
I came to a point where I needed to finish my Master's Degree to hold my teaching certificate. I was halfway through my Masters and realizing that I was sacrificing so much. Time with my family AND time for myself. I decided to take a year or two off and see how I felt after that time, and now I don't think I will ever go back!
I will need to get another job at SOME point for the benefits and 401k, but I don't think I'll go back to teaching. Right now I feel like I am in Limbo! I love being home so much! And I can't imagine anything that I'd want to go back to work for after having this experience!

Re: FTWM to SAHM
I'm a parttime SAHM. I went back to work fulltime when DD was 3.5 months. I changed to parttime when DD was about 8 months.
I originally was thinking of quitting and finding another job with better hours but they were able to change me to parttime and it is working so much better.

Re: FTWM to SAHM
After having my first son in May 2007, I went back 4 months later. Then I took off from July 2008-Sept 2009 (Had my second son in Nov 2008). I had ds #3 in Mar of this year, and was excessed for this Sept. So now I am a SAHM

Re: FTWM to SAHM
After DS1 was born I went back FT for 3 months, then left to go PT for another 10 months, since then I am a SAHM.
Aim for 3 months, IMO it really wasnt bad as long as you have a good childcare situation.
GL
ETA: To be honestly I left FT after 3 months because DH and I agreed it was the best thing to do, but I had a hard time leaving...I really would have stayed FT if both DH and I were on board, but he didnt want DS in Daycare FT.

Re: FTWM to SAHM
Worked FT from when DS was 4 months until he was 14 months. I quit my job when we moved out of state for DH's new job.
I was planning on being a FTWM until we moved. But circumstances changed, so now I have been home for almost 2 1/2 years. I also had another DS 17 months ago.
I love being home. Unless circumstances change, I plan on being home until they start school.
