FTWM: When do you work out?

If you're a FTWM who works out, when do you do it?

I can't seem to find the time anymore after starting my new job this week.

Tuesdays and Thursdays are completely out because I literally leave the house at 6:30 am and get home at 8 or 8:30 pm.

Then on M/W/F... I get home around 4:30 but then it's like I don't want to take away more time from Loey since I barely get to see him on Tues/Thurs.

On the weekends, I feel like I am SO busy during his naptimes. I go food shopping, do laundry, etc.

Where the heck do I find the time??? I already have to wake up at 5 most days or 5:30 some days for work... and I go to bed early too so that I can actually get enough sleep to function the next day....

I can't even imagine finding the time. I wake up at 4:30 so I am in bed by 9.

When it gets warmer out, I hope to take walks with DD but for right now I don't want to give up too much time with her.

Can you work out while at work? I used to take walks on my two 15 minute breaks but now I am pumping so I cant

Loey goes to bed at 8 or 8:30! And there's NO WAY I'm going out of the house after that!

We have a treadmill here actually, but then I feel like I'd never get to bed! I've been trying to run for at least 3 miles which takes me 33 minutes, plus 10 minutes total for warm up & cool down. Then I'd have to shower after that because I'm a sweaty mess... but I also shower in the morning because otherwise I would not even be awake and my hair would be a wreck.

Re: FTWM: When do you work out?

My gym is open until 11pm most nights. I try to get there on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday but with the holidays I am swamped so I don't usually do the Sunday.

I go after the kids go down to bed...DH cleans everything and prepares for the next day so that I can go. He goes Monday, Wednesday & Friday and I do the cleaning prep on those nights.

I wouldn't be able to go (when I do actually go) without his help.

Re: FTWM: When do you work out?

having the same issue...

when I get home, I make dinner, and DH doesn't get home until 6:30 and we don't usually eat til after 7. Riley goes to bed at 6:30...so if I worked out after she went to bed, we wouldn't eat dinner til at least 8. And I don't like to work out after dinner!

Devon, how do you work out after dinner? Isn't it completely uncomfortable? I guess I could just eat a couple bites and then finish after...ya know, just wanna keep dinner a 'family mealChat Icon

I only seem to catch up on workouts when I'm off from work. And like you, her naptimes are the times to get things done. so I do a quick 30 day shred, but then have less time to get things done!Chat Icon Can't win!

I'm trying to figure this out myself. I was thinking of going to the gym after ds goes to bed, but I just don't have the energy. If you fiugre it out, please let me know...I'd love to hear your plan!

Re: FTWM: When do you work out?

It's so hard and really takes a commitment from your husband as well. I had to ask my husband to pick up my daughter twice a week and give me my time on the weekend to run. I just hired a trainer to come to my house at 4 pm twice a week (I work from 7-3) then I go running on Saturday and Sunday mornings. I'm still trying to get myself up and out today. I have to fit in one more day during the week, but like I said-- it is so hard!
Most days I get home and just want to collapse!

in my dreams Chat Icon

seriously, though. the simple answer is i dont and cant right now. i try to be active generally for now. i take my girls on long walks. play a lot with them and run around with them. in the spring, i plan on joining a gym with babysitting so i can take them and they will have some fun, too. DH and I also plan on going for hikes with them, and getting bikes with little trailers. would love to get up about 20 minutes earlier every day to do crunches, push ups and squats, but i have a terrible back that is worst in the morning, and right now standing up in the morning is difficult enough. getting that fixed soon, and hopefully by this spring i will be able to do that as well.

Re: FTWM: When do you work out?

I go to yoga on Mondays from 7:30 - 9 and pilates on Thursdays from 7:30 - 8:30. DD goes to bed around 8 and I've had to learn to be okay about not being there to put her down. I also try to workout on the wii once a week. DD kind of likes to watch us from her exersaucer, but it all depends on her mood. I've learned that I need to make time for myself. I'm a pretty high-strung person so I think that taking the time for me and relaxing actually makes me a better parent.

Re: FTWM: When do you work out?

I don't. A big part of the reason I look the way I do.

BUT, I'm ok with it. I wake up at 5:30 for work, get home EXHAUSTED, barely have enough energy to cook and keep the kitchen/toys cleaned up. It is what it is. I'll do it someday.

Re: FTWM: When do you work out?

I go after DS goes to bed. He's down by 7 or 7:15 the latest, so I try to get there 3 times a week after he's asleep.

It's not the most convenient timing in the world, but its the only time I have.

That's how I feel. By the time DS is in bed, it's 8:30 or 9, and I'm not leaving the house for an hour or more. I get up at 5:30 and am exhausted by 9.

Re: FTWM: When do you work out?

It is so hard to find the time. When I worked f/t I would run every sat and sun and 1 or 2 nights a week after work. DH would pick Landon up on those days and I would beat them home and start running right when I walked in the door. Now that I am part time I run on the days I am not working.

The gym is a few blocks down from my job (5 min walk) so I do 20 min on the treadmill a couple times a week on my lunch break & take the 6:15 class after work at least 1 day a week

I also run up the stairs 2-3 times a day (takes about 5 min)

Re: FTWM: When do you work out?

before work at 5am, RIGHT from work (go for a run from school), OR at 7:30pm and after when DH gets home. those are the only times i can do it. the weekends are a must-i just force myself to get up early and those are 2 days that are definite. i aim for 3x during the week and then the 2 weekend days. i don't let myself have any excuses anymore. oh and i stopped feeling like i have to work out past 30 min. to make it count. even if i do just 20 minutes thats better than nothing!

Re: FTWM: When do you work out?

i'm really fortunate because we have a gym and showers at work. Not that i go as often as I should (if at all lately). But when I do I do it during lunch so it doesnt' take away from the rest of my day.

Same here. I try to work out for 45-60 minutes 5 days a week (work week). On weekends my exercise is running after my toddler.

Re: FTWM: When do you work out?

I have a young large dog - so we run 2 miles every morning -- seven days a week no matter the weather - and on the weekends i try to walk him for another two miles

for a while i went to a fdance class or played ice hockey but lately i am too exhausted to either at night - i need more motivation for that
