Fun Books for first graders!
I am going to a reading program at DS's class on Friday. Looking for some fun book suggestions that would work for both boys and girls. It would be for ten-fifteen mins. So far Ds has suggested some Arthur books, Chrysanthemum, and some UK based books he loves-paddington the bear series. I am not sure the Uk ones would work-DH thinks it would stimulate discussion about different customs and word usage etc. I would love to hear what your children enjoy/ed at this age.

Something fromThe pigeon series or Knuffle Bunny by Mo Willms
Skippy Jon Jones series (ridiculous books but my kids loved them in first grade)
Anything by Robert Munsch
Julius the Baby if the World by Kevin Henkes
Just a few off the top of my head.

My DD is a first grader and she loves tomie de paolo books - Strega Nona - most of her friends seem to love them too. I read paddington bear to my kids and honestly I feel they are more suited for younger kids but that might be just me.

DS loves the Fly Guy books. He's in 1st grade. The class on a whole loves Junie B Jones as well, but that is much longer.

My DS in 1st grade LOVES the fly guy books too he has read them all!!

Fun Books for first graders!
I ended up reading a Cynthia Rylant book from the High Rise detectives series. The kids loved it! Thanks for all your suggestions-some of the books are new to me and I look forward to reading them with my DS.

Pete the cat is a good one too
Oh I just did a reading & my daughter made me read goodnight IPad we heard it at her school at night for after school pjs & books & she made me go out & get it the next day. All thr kids loved it.

The problem with Mo Willems is that the books are short. if you have 10-15 minutes, you'll be done in less than 5.

Officer Buckle and Gloria, Peggy Rathman
If you want a real crowd pleaser...Press Here by Herve Tullet. you can have the kids interact with it. It's not long, but they will want to read it again.
