what is the "final prayer"? my family is jewish, and i've only been to wakes before, not christian funerals.

Re: funeral question

I *think* if it's open casket, it's the prayer before they close it ... and I guess if it's a closed casket, it's the final prayer at the funeral home before heading to the cemetary.

Re: funeral question

Is it a Catholic funeral? If so, there is a final prayer of commendation, which goes something like "Merciful Lord, turn toward us and listen to our prayers: open the gates of paradise to your servant and help us who remain to comfort one another with assurances of faith, until we all meet in Christ and with you and with our brother/sister for ever."
