Funny moments??? Let's share!
The other posts about the rude comments got me thinking.
We all have those moments when you have to put your gradebook up to your face to hid the fact that you are trying not to laugh.
Let's share them here!
I have two that I can think of right away:
I had just explained in my HS ESL class what "hold your horses" means to an Indian student. The next day in class I'm telling another student to wait a minute, when I hear the Indian student turn around and go
"yea, Edgar, keep your horses still"
He was so proud that he used what he thought was the idiom LOL.
My other moment is another student telling on two brother in a MS class. Both brothers are named Mohammad:
"Excuuuuuuse me.....Mohammed hit Mohammed and Mohammed got mad and hit Mohammed back"
This was said at warp speed. I didn't even have time to hide, I just burst out laughing.
Anyone else have any?

Re: Funny moments??? Let's share!
I'm in CA and I'm an SLP at a school that is 10 miles from the Mexico border.
Anyway.... a student and I were working on opposites. I was trying to get a baseline of what he knew, so I was just saying "What's the opposite of ... " and letting him reply.
So we get to "what's the opposite of black?" And he says "umm... Mexican?"

I am an ESL teacher and I could go on and on but one really stands out. My first year teaching I went on a cruise during April break. I went to pick up one of my first graders the day we got back and she asked, "Why are you a different color?" It was soo funny. It also made a good lesson on the sun and what it does to your skin, etc.

Re: Funny moments??? Let's share!
love these! I'm an SLP in a school and one time i was working with a student on comparing and contrasting-- he had to tell me what was the same and what was different about 2 things I named. so i said " whats different about a principal and a teacher?" and he goes " well... a teacher works, and a principal doesn't" LOL i guess in his mind since the principal is in the office most of the day and not out and about, hes not really working LOL
i also had a first grader say " hey! wanna hear a funny word??" so i said " sure!" and he goes "SIDE BOOB!" i was like " WHERE did you hear that??" and he said " I watch Family Guy with my mom!"

Re: Funny moments??? Let's share!
In the beginning of the year I was sharing my star of the week poster to my first grade class and I was explaining what and who were in all the pictures, I showed them one of my mom and dad, and one student asked why does your mom and dad look like a grandma and grandpa!! LOL, its so funny because they have no concept of how old we are, they thought my parents should look like there parents, even though I am the same age as most of their parents!!! I love seeing their faces too when I run into them outside of school. They look so confused, they think we live in the school!!!

I remember running into one of my teachers at the supermarket when I was younger. I recall being very amazed ... like... "She eats FOOD?!" Kids.....

I love when the kids ask me how old I am. I never tell them but I always ask them "How old do you think I am?" because I love the answers. I've gotten as young as 16 and as old as 80!

Re: Funny moments??? Let's share!
I teach kindergarten and a few years back my kids were playing in their free choice centers. A group of kids decided to play in the kitchen center when a boy decided he wanted to join and asked what he could be.... one child said there was no room because they already had a daddy, a mommy, a brother, a dog, a cat, a grandma and grandpa.... so the boy looked preplexed a moment and said... "I'll be the smelly old uncle"... and they all said "ok!"
