Furniture

are there any places to get inexpensive furniture?

I dont want to skimp too much but These places that sell nursery furniture. It just seems sooo overpriced to me? I cant understand why?

I didnt want to spend $1000 on a set cause I know its gonna have such wear and tear and not be worth it ?

Re: Furniture

I'm in the same boat! I don't want to spend a bunch of money, but I can't really find anything under $300 just for the crib. Target has some on clearance in their stores. I did buy one from there, $150 (half off) and it was pretty nice. It was a white Basset, but when I opened it, it was cracked and it was the only one they had Chat Icon I know the store near me still has one Basset left in stock. It's the oak color though. They also have the matching changing table. It had good reviews on target.com. I just don't want oak.

The walmart website has some inexpensive ones, but the shipping is what kills any deals there are online.

Re: Furniture

We got a great deal at JCPenney. We got a convertible crib and dresser/changing table for $750. It would have been closer to $900, but my mom works there and she used her discount. Even 900 is reasonable for both. They also had cheaper cribs in $200-300 range.

To save money we used a tall dresser from Ikea that matched his crib and changing table.

Have you checked out Target or Walmart?

Re: Furniture

My mom is buying our crib and the ones I liked at BRU were $199 and $299. There was a Jenny Lind style crib at BRU for $119. I think Baby Bargains gave it a good rating.

We bought a 3 drawer chest in white from IKEA for $140 and will use it as a changing table. DH put it together in about an hour (and we are not very good at putting furniture together) and it looks really nice!!! We're also getting a bookshelf from IKEA for $80.

IKEA has convertible cribs that are very inexpensive, but the Baby Bargains book didnt give them a good rating.

It is so frustrating how expensive the furniture can be - I just shopped around and looked for stuff that I liked and that could be used as the child gets older.

the Jenny lind crib is listed first ($119)
the other one is around $199 and comes in a variety of finishes.

Good luck!

We got a childcraft crib and 4 drawer dresser from Baby Depot for about $500. We figured that we could get a twin bed or something when he's older and reuse the dresser.

ETA: Back when we were looking, like 2 years ago, Baby Bargains liked the quality of Ikea.

I think it's a good way to go - the white dresser is pre-treated and can be cleaned with a damp cloth and windex or some sort of spray cleaner. The height is perfect for a changing table (I'm 5'4") and the price is right.

I agree, I was even thinking of changing the hardware to make it match better and thats a cheap fix.

Most of their stuff I like is in the white, which stinks, I didnt want to do white, but I think in the end its the best way to go.

I really like that crib! Do you know if they had a white or cherry finish? What's the brand of it so I can look for it online?

Oh Lisa you dramamama!!!

OK here's my take -- I am getting the bureau from a regular furniture place - NOT nursery. I'll get onw of those changing pad pillow type things to put on top. This way it will be fine for kiddo growing up too. So much less $$ and for what?? No rails on the sides - I won't need them anyway with the changing pad.

Of course if I could get it at Hand-Me-Down Harry's, I would!! Along with used undies! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

If you go to the Babies R Us website and search cribs you'll find a number of them - but they have a larger selection in the stores themselves. That particular crib is the Delta 3 in 1 crib. I know they have it (or something really similar looking) in white and cherry. The prices in the store and on the website vary from around $179 to over $300

Hope it helps!Chat Icon

Here's some cherry cribs for you - Both are by Jardine and both are around $199 - I think one might be $179.
