FYI Channel 7 news at 5pm
They are doing a story on elective c-sections. The teasers are really vague about the content of the story, just wanted to share that it will be on.

Re: FYI Channel 7 news at 5pm
There was something on this morning on channel 4 (Today show) and I thought they said tonight on Channel 4...Anyway...
This morning they were talking about new guidelines - the high number of C-sections was because of the number of elective c-sections had greatly increased.
They were going to discuss the risks and benefits and why people have elective c-sections

Re: FYI Channel 7 news at 5pm
Did anyone catch this? I am still at the office and I missed it.
I would love some info on this. I am scheduled for a c-section on 4/14. I guess its "elective" but I am only doing it because the baby is breech and the doctor said this is the safest way to deliver. I am still doing everything in my power to make this girl turn around!!
I would be curious to see what they say. Thanks!!

They didn't really say a whole lot IMO. It was some research organization and they said that more research needs to be done to see if elective c-sections are more harmful to the baby or mom. They seemed to be discussing the people who elect to have them simply because they want to avoid labor. They said that they wanted to make sure that moms knew all of the risks associated with c-section as well as v-birth for their pregnancy, and they need to have a frank discussion with their OB.

I thought DRs wouldnt do elective c-sections...
(like I dont consider Shellys situtation "elective"- When I think elective I think- someone who walks in, says I want my *** to stay in one piece,so sched for a c-sect)

I missed it. I still can't believe that an insurance company would pay for elective c-sections.

No you're not considered elective, you are considered medical. {{{Turn BabyJ, Turn}}}

I didn't think they would either. I know my doctor won't even talk about it. But I guess there are some doctors who are willing to do it since they get paid a lot more for a section than a v-birth.
I don't think Shelly is elective either. I hope that baby turns!
I think they meant more of the people like Britney Spears who said "My mom said it's really painful so I want to avoid it." That's just immature IMO.

My first was a c/s because he was breech (definitely not elective!) and my second one is still breech at 33 weeks so we'll see if and when I shcedule a repeat c/s. I'll pray that both our girls turn for us!

From what I saw yesterday morning this is not the type of "elective" c-section they were talking about - that is a medical reason for one -
The one women they interviewed (who was an OB) said she feared incontinence after giving birth so she elected for a c-section - she said she gets a ton of patients who come in and say they want a c-section or induction b/c they want they baby born on a certain day rather than the next day b/c they want them under one particular astronological sign

I agree. I also read somewhere that these type of people often opt for a c-section around 36 weeks because supposedly between 46 and 40 weeks is when the belly stretches the most and gets the most out of shape and if you avoid these 4 weeks it is easier to get your figure back??? Don't know if this is true but I can see Hollywood adding this to their list of enticements for scheduled sections.
