Gallstones???

Anyone have this problem?

When I went to the ER a few weeks ago they thought it was cysts giving me problems but turns out to be gallstones. I had a really bad attack on Friday night.

Did you have to watch what you eat? I just had a really bad reaction to my lunch which was a greek salad and I feel like someone is stabbing me in my side.

I had them. It kind of just "Hit Me". They admitted me into the hospital and recommended the gall bladder come out. I was in for 4 nights.
When I was having the attack, I was terrified. I seriously thought it was a heart attack. I never ever experienced that pain before.
I hope you feel better soon.

My dr. said it is common for those who had a baby and that's most likely why it happened to me.

Apparantly what you eat can cause flare-ups. Because if I remember correctly, your gall bladder releases a fluid that helps food digest fatty foods, so the stones get irritated after you eat something fatty. I might be so off on this, but we were just having this conversation on LIW (link) yesterday.

I've been so good too watching what I eat since Friday. I think the salad dressing is what did me in today.

Re: Gallstones???

yes you need to stay away from spicy, fried foods. If you have a problem again you need to get it removed. i know a great surgeon in Patchgoue, that i work for.

Re: Gallstones???

I just had the ultrasound the other day.. iim going for my results 10/30
nothing specific triggers my attacks but it seems like its everything lately... i have a poor diet i love bad foods but normal stuff triggers it too not just my 'junk'

im hoping my doc sends me to get it out after he gets the results...
or my backup plan... ill just eat tons of stuff to get a major attack, go to the er and have er surgery

Don't do this.. that's extremely dangerous!! If you have gallstones, or even gall "gravel", your dr can give you something to try and shrink them. My dr gave me the option of the medication or selective removal. I selected to remove the bad boy..lol

Re: Gallstones???

My brother has them, and is actually going to have surgery to remove his gallbladder in about a week.

His situation is a little more complicated, because the gallstone issue ended up affecting his pancreas as well, but his doctors recommended a low fat diet, moderation with alcohol, and to try not to get too stressed out, as they can all aggravate the problem.

It sounds painful - I hope you feel better soon! Chat Icon

This sounds familiar, I did this. Chat Icon Only problem is I did it on a Friday, no surgery till Monday.

My only saving grace was that I was like 14 and didn't know better.

Re: Gallstones???

I had them and needed surgery to remove my gallbladder. If the stones get into your bile ducts leading from your gallbladder you could die.

you need to stay away from high fat foods to ward off attacks, but sometimes it's ANYTHING that you eat that will trigger an attack.

I lived on grilled chicken salads and Carvel non fat ice cream for the weeks leading up to my surgery

Re: Gallstones???

Ugh, I had my gallbladder removed when I was 21. The thing just died! I had zero function left in it. I had to wait over a month to have my surgery after they did all the testing, so I had to avoid anything fatty plus coffee, broccoli etc. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
