Gals who went from blond highlights back to brunette! HELP!
I have been highlighting my light brown hair blond for about the past 10 years. My natural color is similar to Jennifer Aniston/Giselle's hair.
I decided to go back to my natural color because I was sick of keeping up with the highlights. I showed the hairdresser a photo of what I wanted my hair to look like. She said no problem. I asked her if it would be really dark She said no.
Well, my hair is DARK. REALLY DARK. It reminds me of Reese Witherspoon's hair when she dyed it. It looks NICE but it's a bit of a shock and REALLY DARK.
Everyone at the salon told me it would fade, A LOT. She said she had to use "filler" becuause of the blond.
I just took a shower and washed it TWICE. The water was really brown from all of the dye coming out.
Anyone else ever experience this? Will it really fade or should I go back?

I just did this in September. I went from really light to fairly dark. You will still see the dye in the shower for another few days and it definitely fades. It is definitely a shock. I understand what you are gong through. Good thing came out of it though, it's been 12 weeks and i haven't been back since. I used to have to go in every 8 weeks. So it does save you money and your hair...LOL I am trying to hold out as long as i can without looking horrible. I have to say it has blended really nice.

I did this about 3 years ago & I had the same experience as you. I was shocked at how dark it was but my hairdresser told me it will fade & it did....The first couple of times of taking a shower & seeing the dye coming out was frightening but then it stopped & my hair was to the shade I wanted....The upkeep is so much easier then the blonde highlights...

it will fade, but also, as it fades you will probably see where the highlights were ... those area will fade lighter (or brassier)
It may take a few times of dying and a few months of regrowth before you rid yourself of all the highlights.
The next time you dye, ask them to do a lighter shade on you. She probably went a shade darker to try to take the blonde out.

it will fade - but if you want it to fade faster, use a dandruff shampoo. those are the harshest on color treated hair and will take more of the dye out (my hairdresser gave me that advice and it works really well).

Yes - it will fade, but it will take about 2 weeks and then your old highlights will start to show and somehow everything evens out and it looks really pretty!

i'm having the same problem. I wanted to go back to really dark brown hair, my natural hair color. After a couple of shampoos, the dye fades, so in my case, I want to keep going darker so it won't look as faded.

Its probably going to fade a lot! I have been a blonde for many many years and every time I go another color, or darker it always washes out fast, so I just stay blonde now--lol

Hopefully it will fade into the color that I was hoping to have. My hair was super blonde underneath so I guess it was just really porous.
It doesn't look bad, it's just drastically different.

I just did it...
same situation- had a lot of blond- had to use the filler.
but it wasn't super super dark (as dark as I had in the past) b/c they used a rather high lift to get my hair a medium brown- but still dark.
Yes, it will fade. I've taken to washing my hair everyday- and now about a month later my blond highlights have started to slightly poke through- it looks nice and very natural!

I have dyed my hair twice dark for the same reason as you! I just did this earlier in november and it faded a lot. it is a light brown now. I would give it about a week and you will see a big difference. at least i did.

yes it will fade FAST. I had blonde highlights for a few yrs and deicded to go back to Brown..aa medium brown came out REALLY dark on me. Its been about 4 and 1/2 weeks and my highlight areas are fading fast. I need to get it re-done ASAP. Usually I could go 15-18 weeks between highlights.
ITs gonna take a while to get it to the right shade.

Agreed - give it some time.
It's hard to cover years of bleaching to get the right tone/color and she would have had to go a bit darker in order to get the right shade when it does fade out ..........

It will take like 1-2 weeks and you will probably get some brassy areas where the highlights were.

Yes, your hair will fade.
I darkened my hair also. I have been very happy that I got rid of the Highlights.

I've had blond highlights for appx. 15 years, and finally I decided to go dark in April. My hair dresser started with gloss dye and it does fade very quickly. I have to keep on touching it up every 3 months until the blond grows out (it is very hard to cover it up).

If it's semi- perm color, it will fade.
I had the SAME thing happen.
I cried for days.
I went in the shower and washed it and washed it and washed it.
Eventually- it took about a week or 2- but it did fade and I ended up liking the color it faded to.
It's a shock now I know- but you will get used to it and it will also fade.
Give it another few weeks.
