Re: game of thrones?

Looooooooooooooved it. Really long book (900+ pages) that didn't feel long at all. Have you watched the show at all? It's almost word for word from the books, which is excellent IMO! DH is on book 4 now and he's loving it. He keeps trying to tell me what's going to happen and I just put on my earmuffs. Chat Icon But it's a big old medieval soap opera and I love it!

Re: game of thrones?

I just ordered the first four books of the series... I can't wait to start to read them!!! I'm only 1/2 way through the HBO series... but my brother started the series via books and LOVES it!

Read the first book and as the PP said, it's pretty much identical to the HBO series - just a little more in depth on certain things.

I have the 2nd book ready to go on my kindle but the books are long detailed reads so I'm reading a few lighter book before starting the 2nd

My BIL is on book 4 now. He said 2 & 3 blew his mind away! He said he's not really liking 4 though. He said it's slow

Re: game of thrones?

I LOVE this series. I'm in the middle of book 5, which just came out, now.

Book one is pretty identical to the HBO series.

Book 2 and 3 are fantastic.

Book 4 is a hard read. The main characters more or less disappear from the storytelling, and you are left with a lot of minor characters, many of whom you have never met, telling the story. It was a difficult read.

Book 5 is great so far, the main characters (those of whom are still alive, anyway) are back.

George RR Martin is a tough author. He has no attachment to main characters, and has no problem killing them off, so it's best not to get attached to anyone. Terrible things happen constantly, to everyone, especially women and children. It's been said by a lot of critics that he "hates his fans," which has a kernal of truth, in that he likes to kill off and maim favorite characters and he seems to enjoy making his fans wait years and years for new installments while he pursues other projects.

Be that as it may, I love his fantasy world, it's one of my favorite series, and I hope you enjoy it Chat Icon

That's the best part about it though! No one is safe and you never know what's going to happen next. DH has been sitting on book 5 since he wants to read it on the plane to Ireland next week. He'll be glad to hear it's good!

Oh, yeah, I love that no one is safe!! That's great as far as I am concerned. I have an issue with the long, long wait between books, especially when he's said he had Dance With Dragons finished for years and just didn't care to release it... that's kind of wrong, but also his perogative, I guess.

I know! He takes forever between books! We're new to the series, but DH knows not to hold his breath for the next one. He's used to it though- the author of the last series he was reading died before finishing it! lol!

I didn't know that it was finished though- that's pretty effed up! Chat Icon

You have to be talking about Robert Jordan here... the Wheel of Time series? That's actually my next series I'm going to be started after I finish Dance With Dragons.

Guess I am in the minority, because I thought the book was overly long and dragged a lot.

I have no interest in continuing the series.

That's the one! Though, the new author that has taken over the series- my DH likes him better than the last one actually. Go figure!
