If you are having a new door installed, the person replacing your door should haul the old door away free of charge.
If you are doing it yourself, bend it in half, tie it and leave it for special pickup.

I had mine hauled away though I heard if you tie it up the town will pick it up on the day they pick up bulk.
To haul it away (with lots of other stuff) I used localcleanups.com -- they were great.
