Gate for Difficult Staircase

We have (3) gates and none that work on our stairs. I need help!!!

We have a staircase that is unlevel. One side has a base board and the other side is a banister. The banister is uneven and almost at a diagonal slant.

Any recommendations?

DS just fell off my stairs and I need to get a gate quick.

TIA!

Re: Gate for Difficult Staircase

can you post a pic???

I know it sounds silly but dr. fosters and smith (a pet online store) sells gates for a whole array of different staircases. Much much more of a selection than the baby stores.

I'll take a pic when I get home. Unfortunately I don't have one at work.

Re: Gate for Difficult Staircase

We have molding on the bottom on one side & a banister on the other and this is the one we have. What I did was take a pick of the top of the stairs with my phone, showed the guy at Buy Buy Baby (SOOOO much more selection than BRU and the guy really knew his stuff) and this was the gate he recommended. I would highly recommend doing the same to save yourself from buying multiple gates!!! Ours is by KidcoExternal Image

Thank you. I'll definitely take a pic and bring it with me to the store. Chat Icon

I bought a free-standing pet gate. I don't know how to post a picture but if you google it you can take a look.

Re: Gate for Difficult Staircase

Are you looking for a gate for the top or bottom of the stairs?

Just a thought - if its for the stairs going up, is the first/second step more level? Could you put the gate there?

ETA: Not sure how you feel about this but if you just leave the gate resting on the steps (going up) and DD gets close and knocks the gate down it might scare her not to go near there again.

We just blocked off part of the house for DS and the gate didn't really fit. When he went near it we told him NO GATE. When it fell he got scared and stayed away.

If its upstairs, could you block off the hallway and not just the stairs.

Go to BBB and get the KidCo Angle-Mount Wood Safeway® Safety Gate and any extension kits that you need. That'll solve the problem of your banister being at a diagonal. Someone posted a pic of that gate above.

To solve the base board problem, get the KidCo Safety Gate Installation Kit. It's a piece of wood and spacers that you drill into the side of the wall. You drill the gate into the wood so that it's even. We had to make the spacer a little thicker with some extra wood, but we got it to work.

That's how we solved the problem.
