GE Appliances & Service are horrible! UPDATE they still BITE!
Soooo....Last year our stove/oven died. We had a home warranty & got it replaced with the same make/model, etc. $1,300 range that I would have preferred to get something different, but due to the size this was the only thing avail.
Fast forward less than 7 mths later. I preform a self clean. Within 30 mins of the self clean the oven just DIES! Stove works, light in oven works, but door is locked & keypad is dead. Because the appliance died in less than a year we can get free GE Service
We had to wait close to 2 wks for repair. They gave us an 8 to 12 window - The guy comes at 1:30. Stays less than 20 mins, NEVER used the new parts GE sent...and is on his way after assuring DH all is well....you should have no problems.
Fast forward....less than 24 hrs later - My cynical mind says....ok lets preform a self clean again....Go figure, within no time the same damn thing happens...
Ok, so I'm fuming already - I can't go another freakin' day w/out an oven...this is BS I call service to send someone out TODAY....I get disconnected THREE times.... this is NOT helping their case. The "best" time they could give was WED guess what...between 8-12...
Holy Mary Mother of God.... I'm going to watch the service man and then make him sit in a chair & stare at the stove until a self clean cycle is done...because I'm NOT going through this again. I hope he has a few hours to kill....
oooaahhhhmmmmmmmmmm....... I need a glass of wine!
UPDATE!!! So Wed morning came & DH &I realize we didn't rec a confirmation call from GE. We call...after an 1hr they say, Oh we had to order a part & rescheduled it for Tues the 12th - SAY WHAT?! Another day lost for my DH from work. We rec NO CALLS of the saying they were rescheduling. DH convinced them to set it for Friday. same 8-12 window - apparently it's set up from a different time zone because he appeared again at 2pm. He finally installs all parts then sets the self clean & leaves. I come home...ummm...oven isn't working?! I spend another 1/2 hr on the phone w/GE & think every dept they have. they're telling me our case has to go to the review board before they send a new oven.... a REVIEW BOARD?! and that would take 48 biz hrs.
Luckily my DH was smart enough to get the service guy's cell # & he's going to reset it & put in a request for a new oven. Can you flippin believe this?!?!?
One mth w/out this oven...and we've only owned the POS since end of June 07! Needless to say I can't wait until we can afford to do our kitchen over...I can seriously say I will NOT use GE appliances!

Uggh. That stinks. SOund like you got a bad stove/oven. I have to say I have a GE Profile convection oven and I absolutely love it. Granted its only 3 years old, but never one issue and I've used self-clean a million times.
I hope they solve the issue for you!

I absolutely hate dealing with GE service. So much that I will never get another GE appliance. The repair man is actually pretty good and we've had such minor issues with our washer and dryer, but dealing with customer service is just a nightmare.

oh man, that stinks.
I hate dealing with the people on the phone from GE but the repair man that comes to the house has been here a few times because we had a refrigerator crack that they ultimately wound up replacing and he was super nice!!!

My parents had issues with them - they didn't show one time then when they did finally come they didn't ground my mom's stove properly so she got shocked. I could go on and on...

I had a horrible experience with a GE dishwasher & their service. The top rack keep getting stuck when you would pull it out and try to push it back in.
They replaced the top rack tracks twice. The new racks would work fine for a month, then start to get stuck again.
The third time I told GE that you replaced the racks twice, do SOMETHING ELSE this time to fix it because that's obviously not the problem.
What do they do the third time? Mail me some more rack tracks.
I told PCRichard to take the damm thing back and I ended up buying a KitchenAid dishwasher. MUCH better!

Yeah the last time I just had them come just out of spite. Because I know it costs them money and I knew they wouldn't be able to fix it. Idiots.
The said thing is while my new KitchenAid diswasher works great, the rest of my appliances are all GE (I bought all GE stainless to match - duh).
Hopefully my refigerator won't break down because I doubt i'll have any issues with the Microwave or the Stove.
