Gender at NT Scan?
So, when we went for the NT scan the dr said she thinks it will be a boy. We went back for a sono yesterday at 12W 4D and they said it is way too early for them to tell. My next appointment I will be 17W 4D, and they said that they don't do the anatomy scan until week 19, bc 17W might be too early too tell. Has anyone else found out the gender at the NT scan? I thought by 17W they could tell for sure, so not sure why my dr wont do it then! I am anxious to know!

Re: Gender at NT Scan?
They told me at my NT scan that it was too early to tell. I didn't have a sono at week 17 (but I've heard you can see what it is at that point). I will find out at my 20 week appointment next week.

Re: Gender at NT Scan?
The baby is so little at 12w, so even if they were able to give you an answer, IDK how accurate it could really be. We found out the gender at 17w bc my SIL is a sonotech and scanned me. I would wait until your anatomy scan to be 100% sure.

Re: Gender at NT Scan?
I was told at my NT scan for both of my PGs that it was too early to tell the gender.

Re: Gender at NT Scan?
I think I may not following your post correctly, but I'll try. It's really unlikely that the doctor could tell the gender at the NT scan. I think mine was set up anytime between 11 and 13 weeks. I went at 11 weeks which is way to early to confirm gender. I actually think the genitalia is still developing at that point.
They likely can tell gender pretty definitively at 17 weeks, but that appointment may not be a sonogram. I don't think every doctor does a sonogram at that point. The anatomy scan is set up after 18 weeks so they can get a good look at all of the baby's anatomy. It's not actually just to find out the gender, but also to look at the baby's heart, kidneys, brain, etc. Which is why the set up that appointment after 18 weeks. I'm thinking that's what they meant by it may be too early to tell not solely talking about gender, but also talking about the other organs.
In general the later you wait to find out the gender the more accurate it is.
Hope this helps a bit and I followed your post correctly

Re: Gender at NT Scan?
I just had my NT scan and didn't ask for gender. Once the tech told me how small my baby was, I figured I would wait until they could be the most accurate...hopefully my level 2 is it!

Re: Gender at NT Scan?
The tech couldnt tell at my NT scan because baby was too small. I went to my friend who does ultrasounds and she told me we were having a girl at 17w4d. It was confirmed at our 20w level II.

Exactly - thanks! They said if I want them to check at the 17W appointment that they will try. I guess I will see when I get there.
And thanks everyone!

Re: Gender at NT Scan?
our tech said that she likes to take a guess at the NT Scan and that sometimes you can tell how things are going to develop and that she has a 70% track record of being right. but really it is too early but it was fun. It will be interesting to see if she was right in a few weeks.

Re: Gender at NT Scan?
At 12 weeks, my NT Scan, they told me they only had a 50% chance of being right so they wouldn't take a guess.
When I was 16 weeks I went back to the perinatologist for the AFP and they were able to tell me we were having twin girls.
At 17 weeks I went to my OB and they would not confirm what the peri said.
At 19 weeks I went back to OB for a cervix check, and they checked both babies and both are still girls

Re: Gender at NT Scan?
My coworker was told "most likely a boy" at her NT scan, and at 20 weeks, there was a vajajay!!! LOL
The baby is SO little at 12 weeks, you will get an accurate scan at 20.
My doctor would not tell me because of that reason.
Patience is a virtue-it will be SO worth the wait, I promise!

Re: Gender at NT Scan?
My OB's office has a policy not to even look for the gender until 20 weeks. Even then, they have turned down many patients' requests to find out the gender unless they can get a crystal clear picture. Trust me, it's worth the wait and the accuracy!

I just found out at 17w1d. They could not tell at 12w, but at 17w, it seemed as clear as day.

Re: Gender at NT Scan?
At 12 weeks they wouldn't even take a guess. They said they only had a 50/50 chance of being right. At 16 weeks they were 100% confident they were girls. This week, at 19 weeks, my OB confirmed it.
