They plan to allow tattoo parlors, gyms, nail/hair salons and bowling alleys to reopen. How exactly do you socially distance? To me these are all luxuries in life and if all these people are currently unemployed who will be going to these places if they have no money?

You can't be 6 feet apart, that's for sure.
I would guess they make the operator and client wear a mask for hair salon and tattoo parlors?
Gyms, no idea- it's not ideal wearing a mask while working out. I can't breathe in a mask in a store and get a panic attack - I can't imagine trying to run or heavily exercise in one!
Is this in line with the phased opening plan the white house put out? I would think it is not.

I saw this last night. The hair salon I get, wear a mask, and allow only 1 to 2 clients in. The movie theater, I don't know. People really jam together in those in the theater itself and in the concession line. Although I went the night before ours closed and it was myself and another woman. So maybe people will stay away. Bowling Alley, I guess every 6 lanes and I would hope they are sanitizing the inside of the finger holes on the balls. We do go bowling a lot since ours is nearby and I'm constantly washing our hands there. The gym...eh, I would never wear a mask there, I would die. I've always brought my alcohol wipes and wiped down the machine before and after I use it though (I treadmill)
Seems like an odd choice of things, but I guess they have to start somewhere
I saw that the drive in theater will be opening soon in upstate New York. I would love to do that!
And I think the salons will be lined up with appointments! All over my FB feed is people dying for them to be open again for their roots, waxing and nails. When I went to the store, the nail department was decimated!

I would think the smaller businesses that serve fewer clients at a time would be the first to reopen but, I am surprised about gyms and bowling alleys.
He is also allowing restaurants and theaters to open on 4/27 - which I think is premature.
BUt, that being said - he was late to close his state and he didn't realize you could have it and be asymptomatic so I am not surprised.

I believe they also said massage therapy......so is the person giving the massage wearing gloves? I would have thought office buildings and retails stores would have been the first to open. I think it's easier to social distance

Well in terms of massage- it doesn't pass through your skin so gloves aren't necessary to touch a person I wouldn't think.
I 'd be more concerned with the close proximity of the massage therapist and client in terms of coughing/sneezing/droplets etc.

i'm visualizing a massage where you're face down could be a little safer than a manicure where you're facing each other and in very close proximity.
but yes, overall, these are interesting choices.

Some of my friends in GA are excited by this. And I'm sure they'll be surprised when their death toll starts to rise.
I feel badly for the workers that want to stay home but would no longer be able to collect unemployment b/c their place of business decided to open.

This list does seem so strange. Why not dentists and doctors for hygiene/preventative care and Non emergency stuff. This all seems kind of unnecessary. I think stores could limit number of people and prob be ok. But tattoos and nails you are in close proximity for a long time. Just seems not with the risk just for vanity. At least the dentist is serving a health purpose even if there is some risk.

That's because people aren't usually washing their hands before they shake hands, and typically not after either. Like a doctor, a massage therapist (or nail tech) is going to wash their hands before they touch someone, and after. You don't get a virus through your skin, like Nell said.

Yes. Hand washing is going to be key as always.
I'd be less concerned about someone touching my back for a massage because it would be hard to get infected that way. Your hands are a different story as you use them to eat, touch your face etc

I hope they would wear masks, but who knows. I think on CNN they said this is in line with the details of the next phase of the fed rollout, but not with the criteria to enter that phase.

Was just going to say even Trump doesn’t support this.
Kemp is going to be surprised when most of his voting base is sick or dead. This is not how he is going to get votes.
I get the hair and massage bits. People need to get their hair cut and massage for medical reasons maybe.
But nails? And tattoos? Is it really that necessary?
