Getting a new car - Leather or Fabric?

My lease is up on my Subarau FOrrester. I am getting a new Forrester- its a perfect family car. DH wants me to get fabric I want leather. The leather we will get does not have the seat warmer. Just wanted your opinion. Would you get leather ot fabric in your car. I do have 2 children

With kids I would get leather (if it was a dark color) - easier to get stuff off of leather than fabric. Heated seats would NOT be the make or break for me. I never had them so I'd never miss them.

from what I have heard from my co-workers who all have kids, leather is WAY easier to clean than fabric.

that said, I just bought a new car in June and one of my requirements was leather seats & a moonroof. I keep my cars for a very long time and always regretted not having those options on my last car.

I'm not a fan of leather, but with kids I think it's the best way to go.

with kids - leather!

the heated seats are definitely a really nice treat but not a necessity...you do get spoiled by them though lol.

I have fabric and since my lunch container leaked today on my fabric....it was a huge pain to clean, I would vote for leather

leather. With kids, I wouldn't get anything else! I have Ebony leather in my car and it doesn't give me any problems!

Re: Getting a new car - Leather or Fabric?

I'm going against the grain and voting fabric.
It's not super hot in the summer or super cold in the winter. I have fabric seats and have never had a problem with food stains...and trust me, I have some serious slobs in my car and have had a number of things spilled on the seats. Just make sure the fabric has stainguard on it.
Plus, my friend has three kids and she had leather seats - there were tears in both her cars from babyseats, backpacks, sports equipment, etc. Kids are careless and can ruin anything...a fabric seat can be repaired - leather not so much.

I absolutely agree. DH has leather and it's aweful! It literally burns my skin in the summer and is freezing in the winter (and that's with his seat warmers). I would never get it. I have fabric and always had it on all my cars...it's a dark color and I have not had any problems so far with stains.

with kids, leather. We are also in the market for a new car and have a Chat Icon on the way and DH wants fabric and says we can put thingies (they look similar to car mats) under the carseat to avoid stains. I'm still trying to push for the leather.

I have to agree, plus the leather seats are scorching in the summer and freezing cold in the winter....my butt cheeks do not like this Chat Icon

leather, so much easier to clean (especially dog hair). I have also never had a huge problem with them being too hot in the summer or too cold in the winter. I have had black leather too if that makes a difference.

From my experiences I find leather to be much more durable if you spill something it doesn't stain and its easy to clean.

But it does get hot in the summer, but If I'm leaving the car in the sun for a long time like at the beach, I bring a towel and cover the seats and they stay much cooler.

I also like the look of leather better.
