Getting a NY Driver's License fron Out Of State Question!
Ok, getting a new license hasn't worked out yet due to the DMV's suck *** hours. It looks like I'm going to have to take a sick day just to go
My question is... will they give me a new license right there? I know w a NY renewal they send it to you but if it's an out of state do they do that too? I kinda need it to get on the airplane next weekend!

Do you have a passport? You can request another copy of your license online and get it in around a week-10 days but if you go there to get a duplicate, you'll only get that paper hardcopy as proof that you have a license.

just so you know you can fly without an ID - I have seen people since 9/11 fly without an ID - requires a supervisor and many extra searches

Re: Getting a NY Driver's License fron Out Of State Question!
it takes about a week or 10 days even if you go to the DMV
is your License expired?
you can use it- as long as it is not expired

it depends on the airline. cause my MIL had to fly to colorado and she had an expired license--the airline told her she could fly as long as it was expired 1 yr or less past the expiration date.
i'd call the airline and verify what their requirements are.
they will mail you a NY license--so it might be best that you just wait till after your trip to get a new one

Re: Getting a NY Driver's License fron Out Of State Question!
Thanks for the help. No passport yet, we're waiting until closer to our cruise next year!
I don't need to change it before I fly - it doesn't expire until 2011. But you're supposed to get one w/i 30 days. And the REAL reason... I need it to get a parking permit for the train station! Right now it's $5 per day or having hubs get up early to drive me He's been bugging me for awhile. But I might just wait until after the wedding in Oct to get one since I need to change my name anyway. But waiting until then means getting up extra early since hubs leaves before me (teacher!)

Re: Getting a NY Driver's License fron Out Of State Question!
I just went to License express in Manhattan today
I was on line at 8:10
doors opened at 8:30
I had my registration by 8:35
it was awesome
I would recommend it to anyone
it will take a little longer to get a lic- since you have to take the picture
but all they do there is lic and renewals
and it's right by Penn Station
34th between 7th and 8th

Re: Getting a NY Driver's License fron Out Of State Question!
Thanks. I have been thinking about doing that... I'd need to get out of there not too late after that to get to work by 9.
I need to do my reg. too, but I don't really want to carry my plates down there.

Why can't you use a utility bill as proof of residence? As for the 30 days, I still have yet to get one and I moved OOS about a year ago.

they aren't going to take your out of state plates back
you are going to have to get a NY Lic
then get NY plates
then send your old plates back to what ever state they are from
they will take your old Lic- but not the plates
so you don't have to bring you plates with you- but they will give you new plates
I am not sure if you can tansfer an out of state reg. there- double check on line

The utils are still in hubby's name since he was living here... I just moved in LOL THe bills in my name are all personal bills.
I didn't know that about the plates, though. That makes things alot easier!!!
