getting blood taken?
Hi - Jake has to go to get blood taken to check his lead level. We took him yesterday to Quest in Syosset and they man tried to get blood from both his arms and did not succeed At this point Jake is hysterical and I take him out of there before they try his hand. My questions is - where do you take your child for blood work and can you recommend someplace for me to go again. My doctor said he needs to have this blood test done. I figure I will try calling some Quest Diagnostics and see if they have someone there that specialized in pediatrics.
Thanks!

Re: getting blood taken?
My son just had this done yesterday at Quest in East Brunswick, NJ. He cried, but they did it very quickly and got in on the first try.

Re: getting blood taken?
Jesse needed blood drawn to check his jaundice level. We went to Good Samaritan hospital (where he was born) and they did a heel stick instead of drawing from the arm. Our insurance covered it but I think we had to pay a co-pay (at Quest we don't but I thought it was worth it). Maybe check with your hospital.

Re: getting blood taken?
Marissa had this done at her last doctors visit and they did it right there in the doctors office and they took the blood from her finger. htey actually asked me if I wanted it done from the finger or from the vein in the arm. Cuz of th insurance if they do it from the vein the insurance coners it if they do the finger then the insurance doesn't cover it and I had to pay $25 I told them to do it from the finger it would be alot easier

Re: getting blood taken?
I took my daughter to Quest at 17 months for that same test, they also poked her about 3 times before telling me that her veins were just not good enough and to come back when she was older I still haven't taken her back yet, she has her 24 month checkup next month and I am sure the dr will mention it again. I tried to take her to Good Sam but the blood lab doesn't take Vytra

Re: getting blood taken?
My son had his done in his Ped's office right after a well baby visit, and they took it from his fingertip. It was really quick.
