Getting frustrated..Re: whole milk

Ugh. I am getting so frustrated!!!

DD will NOT drink milk from a sippy and I have posted about this before. She take one sip and literally makes a horrible face, opens her mouth and lets it drip down her face.

Fine.

We always gave her bottles room temp from when she was a newborn. well, now she will NOT drink the milk cold. Ive tried leaving it on he counter for a little while but unless I put it in warm water for a few mins she refuses it.

GRRRChat Icon How am I stuck warming up bottles NOW?!?!!? I didnt even do it when she was a baby baby!!!!

Any tips? If your child was like this how did you fix it?

As for the cup. . . We haven't gotten past that one - so I have no advice. However, for the milk. First, I would give ds it warmed up for 1 minute in the microwave. Then when he was taking that successfully, I moved it down to 55 seconds. Then 50, etc. etc. Now, he takes it cold right out of the fridge.

I always warm up milk for Noah, and he is 4! He likes it that way, he will drink it cold, but prefers warm. Give the kid warmed milk if thats what she likes!!

Re: Getting frustrated..Re: whole milk

Bella would literally spit it out the first bunch of times we gave it to her. I gave up, but then my ped suggested putting a little chocolate milk in it.

So I would put not even 1/4 a cup of Horizon chocolate milk in with the regular milk and she drank that no problem!

She still drinks her milk that way now Chat Icon

Will she eat yogurt? My ped told me it wasn't a big deal if they don't drink milk for a while as they are getting calcium from other sources such as yogurt and cheese...

Brandon never ever ended up drinking milk from a sippy.....We kept him on bottles until he could drink from a regular cup (which he did pretty early)...Even then he was and still is not a fan of milk from any type of cup , so we try to get calcium in him in other ways .....

Lexi will drink it from the sippy, but thats literally what she does "SIP"...I don't feel like she would be getting enough milk in her for my own comfort level so she too will stay on bottles until I feel she is ready...

Not the popular answer to this, I'm sure- but this is what works for us...Brandon has incredible speech etc.. and keeping him on the bottle for longer then the reccomended standard did him no harm ...

As for the warming of the bottle, it sounds like she is playing you Chat Icon
Not sure how to change that one !

Re: Getting frustrated..Re: whole milk

It took a month to get DS to drink more than a few sips of milk from a sippy cup. Before that, he'd only drink milk if it was warmed up and in a bottle. He has no problem drinking milk from a sippy cup now, but he still prefers it warm. I just microwave a cup of water for a minute and then put the sippy cup in the hot water for a few minutes. At least it's no longer a battle to get him to drink milk.

Well, milk is a drink, it isn't like formula, so I wouldn't really worry that much as long as she eats cheese and yogurt and stuff, she is getting calcium

Try the chocolate. Even Hershey's syrup has calcium added to it now.

She probably just to get used to itChat Icon

Re: Getting frustrated..Re: whole milk

Sasha won't drink the milk from a sippy like she does from a bottle and she doesn't like it cold either.

I leave it out for a while-- same as you, and she will now down the bottles. I didn't want to get in the habit of warming, but if that's what you need to do just to get her used to the milk initially, try it.

As much as I would like her on a sippy for milk-- she needs to get used to getting the milk and getting fed from someone other than me (even though I do give her the bottles), but I won't always be giving it to her.

I will just try the sippy out every now and then-- but I figured, only one change at a time. It's not imperative that she is no longer on a bottle-- she is still little, even if she is 12 months.

I think she probably is not expecting that taste to come out of that cup you know? I still have my kids on bottles. I'm not too stressed about it.

I have the same problem. My DD has always liked warmed bottles so that I am use to BUT.......when it comes to the sippy the ONLY thing she will drink out of it is water. If I put milk in the sippy, even warmed milk, she looks at me like I am insane and throws the sippy across the room. I am dying to get rid of the bottles but she just won't take milk from the sippy.

Re: Getting frustrated..Re: whole milk

I had to give it Jonah warmed at first too, and he would only drink it out of a bottle. After awhile he got used to the taste, I guess and now drinks it cold out of the straw cup.
He doesn't drink as much as he should though, while Mady would drink 20 cups a day if I let her.

Re: Getting frustrated..Re: whole milk

DS started out taking the milk cold and then when got sick I started warming it for him so it would feel better on his throat.

Now he wasn't it warmed all the time, so it goes. We have a hot shot so I boil water in that (it takes maybe a minute) and then let the bottle sit in a cup of the hot water for a few minutes and it is done.

I don't see any harm in giving her a warm bottle Chat Icon
