Getting hair extensions!- updated with before and after pics!
about 5 months ago I experinced crazy hair loss
it's growing back- but my hair is so thin
I have been so unhappy- I have enough changes to deal with (diabetes caused this hair loss - so that's enough of a change)
so monday I am putting my deposit down and friday after work I am getting them put in
I am so excited- I am adding lenght as well-
I will take a before and after pic

Re: Getting hair extensions!
please let me know how it goes! and where you went!
I, too, experienced hair loss recently and have thinning hair now. I was thinking of adding in some pieces.

Re: Getting hair extensions!
I know you put a deposit down already, but did you try clip ins first? I had hair extensions put in and i hated them. They hurt, they were falling out, I shed nonstop and once I took them out, only after 2 weeks, I lost so much of my real hair I had to cut my hair off and go really short. I also had to use rogaine (target brand) to get my real hair back.
I'm afraid you will be upset with them after you take them out, you may have less hair than you have now. I used the clip ins while my hair grew in and that worked better for me b/c i was able to grow in my real hair without any damage. the maintenance on them isn't low, and it costs money to get them tightened...and again, it hurt, it was hard to sleep and just a pita.

Re: Getting hair extensions!
I have had them twice. First time, I had the old school kind. They braid your entire head in corn rows (ouch) and then sew the hair in. It took several hours to do and was about $400. The hair itself was about $800. I left it in for about 3 months. When I had it taken out, there was no damage to my hair.
Second time, I think I had "Great Lengths". It was $1500 and took about 5 hours. It didn't really hurt, but it took a few nights of sleeping on it to get used to it. I left it for about 4 months. No damage when it was removed.
I think the key is to get it done at a reputable place by a qualified stylist. Good Luck and enjoy!

the going rate seemed to be $10 a pc
the number of peices you need depend on your hair and what you are looking for
I am getting 60 pcs
the place I am going to is in smithtown- If that works for you I would be happy to give you the name

Re: Getting hair extensions!
So, you are getting it to extend the length of your hair & having it done throughout your head? I am considered scattered extensions to add hi-lights without bleaching my hair. I do not want to have bleach hi-lights again. However, I was afraid that the glue in ones can damage the hair and I just found out that the little metal clamps have set off metal detectors at court. I wear hair clips that set off the metal detectors but it is easy enough to show the security guards what it is. With something in my scalp it will be tough to convince them even though I would not care if I have to tell them I have extensions. My son's gymnastics teacher got the ones I want---12 strands of hi-lights applied in various places but she had them glued. I might want even less than 12. So far it does not look like she has hair damage. She also went in Smithtown! For what you are getting there are a lot of ways to apply them but for the strands I want I am not so sure. Keep me posted & I hope you love it!!!

Re: Getting hair extensions!
these are attached with a plastic loop and are clamped on- she put one in my hair - and it didn't hurt or pull out any of my hair
I don't think they will set off a metal detector
I will post the name of the place tomorrow- I have the card at my office
I am getting 2 colors to create the look of highlights- 2 shades that are similar
I need to have her explain to me how we are going to continue to color my real hair- if they have to come out to do this- (I hope not)
these extensions are reusable

I looked at some that use a metal loop and I wondered if there is a plastic version. Can you see if you can ask if I can do something like that just for a few hi-lights around my head? Pretty please!!!! I would actually want either hi-lights or low-lights. I just want to add some contrast. I am cutting a lot of length off and I do not really need more thickness. I would also need to know about continuing to color my real hair but I figure that I would want them taken out & redone at that time. It would get expensive but I won't want to see roots.

I would have suggested lunch and then I wondered if either of us really takes a break for lunch. I do when I have made plans, though!!!
Let me know how the hair extensions go. I have now seen the plastic tube ones online and if I could just get some hi-lights that would be great. I do not want bleach hi-lights again and I hate the fact that eventually after touchups it starts to look like a single process anyway.

Re: Getting hair extensions!
before and afters
wow is all I can say
Lauren did an amazing job
I went out with a guy after- who I met with my old hair and he loved the new hair- you couldn't tell what is mine and what is the extensions
I am so happy- Lauren also said she would curl it for me if I am going out - I am going to learn how to do it myself too- but for the price of a blow out it might be worth it to stop by once a week and have it done
if anyone is interestead I have $20 off cards I would be happy to mail you!
