Getting NYC Teaching Degree after BBA ....
Does anyone know the requirements for getting a teaching degree if you did not do your undergrad in the field? I have a BBA in Marketing and worked in radio for almost 10 years. I am thinking of getting my teaching degree to become a NYC teacher .. I am not sure where to 'start' gathering info .... can someone help me?

Re: Getting NYC Teaching Degree after BBA ....
Since you have your Bachelor's already, you just need to get a Masters degree in Education, which will give you the teaching credentials for NYC and elsewhere in the state. There are many schools that offer this and you can take classes in the evening. many people work full-time and do this program. you may need to quit your job or do alternate hours your last semester because you will have to student teach, usally full-time in a school for at least 9-12 weeks.
OR you can look into the NYC teaching fellows program. this program puts you into NYC schools ONLY. you get a short training in the summer or early fall and then BAM! they throw you in the classroom! you teach with no prior education classes or experience and WHILE you teach, you go to school in the evenings at a university selected by NYC and earn your Masters in Ed. in the area in which they place you to teach. They usually only place Fellows in high-need certifcations such as special education, Math, Science and English as a Second Language. You are also placed into the hard to staff schools (usually the tougher inner-cirty schools, but not always). Your commitment to the city is at least two years. After you earn your degree, you have a teaching certificate from the state and are free to conitnue in the city or teach elsewhere in the state. my husband is a Fellow this year and loves it!!!!
GOOD LUCK! let me know if i can help you in anyway!

Re: Getting NYC Teaching Degree after BBA ....
I became a teacher after getting my bachelor's in business and working for 5 years. I chose not to do the teaching fellows so i started to take weekend classes while still working. eventually i substitute taught while working on my degree.
good to know - once you finish 50% of your masters in education your college can recommend you for an internship certificate. you can be appointed as a regular teacher in a nyc school. you just have to finish your masters within 2 years and get an initial certification before the internship certification expires. this is what i did. i recently got my initial certification and finally feel like i have oficially changed careers! it took awhile but has been totally worth it for me. feel free to FM with questions.
