Getting Out of a Car Lease
DH and I are looking for ways to cut expenses. He has another 13 months left on a 42 month lease through Nissan. Has anyone gotten out of lease without penalties?

Re: Getting Out of a Car Lease
Yes and no, both times with Nissan. 2 years ago they offered a deal to get out of lease and lease a new Nissan. Worked for us at the time because we were so over in mileage. Fast forward to 2 months ago. We needed to get out of our lease. (We had an Altima and 2 kids, we are expecting a third baby and we can't fit 3 carseats in the car). We thought they would let us out as long as we leased another Nissan. No go. They said they would let us out for $4 grand. Thanks! Needless to say, they lost our business. We went to another carmaker and they bought out our lease from NIssan and rolled up the cost into our new payment. Cost us a little less than just buying out the lease from Nissan.

Re: Getting Out of a Car Lease
Yes, my last lease I got out about 3 months early. They paid for my over miles and the remainder of my lease. I went from a Jeep Liberty into a new Jeep Grand Cherokee.
This time i'm hoping to get out 6 months early (in Oct). We'll see!

Re: Getting Out of a Car Lease
13 months is a lot. You might be able to take your remaining payments and roll them into the cost of your new vehicle, if you lease again. I wouldn't do that, IMO.
Some car manufacturers will do a pull ahead program (that's what GM calls it), and get you out of your lease up to 6 months early, without payments or penalties. But you must lease again through them.
You really have to look carefully into this, because no matter how good the deal may seem, you are most likely paying for those remaining 13 payments anyway and it might just be better to keep it for now.
