Getting rid of tulips, daffodils...
Is there any way to remove tulips/daffodils without actually ripping out the bulbs? I know that if I just cut the stems down they are surely going to return next year.
They were placed very badly (behind bushes in some areas) and I want to remove them and start over in the fall with some of our choices.
So far I have dug up a few, but it is brutal work, b/c they are old and very intertwined with the roots of other plants and very very hard to get the bulbs.
Sorry for rambling...any ideas?

if you cut the foliage down instead of letting it decay the tulips will not bloom next year and daffs will be mostly green with very little blooms to none. they need the dying foliage to feed themselves so they have energy for next year. also, tulips are perrenials but after a few years they decline. they are only good for a few years anyways but i would try to move them.

I had read this also but found it not to be true. My daffodils came back way better this year after cutting down the foliage last year. I had read it wrong and thought I was supposed to cut them all the way down...I think the only way to really get rid of them is to either dig them up if you want to move them. Or spray them with a weed/plant killer to just get rid of them.

I had no idea you were not supposed to cut them down I cut them all down right after they were done blooming cuz I hate the dead look. I hope I did not screw them up for next year!!!

i wouldn't worry. i have transplanted a lot of stuff in my yard and they seem to do okay and great. and like i mentioned above, tulips decline after a few years anyhow. move them and next spring you might be in for a surprise.
