Getting rid of wasps

Hi,
I have twin toddlers. Last year i didn't get to use the backyard much because my boys were too young. We always get a lot of wasps hanging out in our backyard. So now that spring will be approaching I am so nervous. I want my boys to enjoy their yard. I just don't know how to get rid of them. Any suggestions? Also, any organic solutions (don't want it to effect my boys health). Thanks

I would call an exterminator and ask them if they can come early to look around to see if any wasp nests are starting to build now that it's getting warmer.
My parents had 2 in their shed. The exterminator said he had never seen any as big as one of them!!! They were in between our house and theirs (we live next door to one another). You couldn't even see them b/c they were in the shed and under the roof and practically on the ground--- I used to spray them with the hose from a distance and then run like mad into the house. I also bought those cans of wasp/bee killer... but they never helped. They def. killed the wasps that were around but not the nest.

Re: Getting rid of wasps

Once you kill wasps with the sprayo you have to remove the nest. I don't know much in the preventive department, but my mom gets them every year in the corner of one of her garage doors. We usually just sprayed it with the stuff and left the nest till the end of the year. They never came back.

I do know that when I was younger, we had them in the dirt (they were underground). They may have been hornets but either way, kerosene used to kill them. Safe? Not so sure but it worked.
