Getting to Daycare - asleep or awake?

Today is Zach's first day of daycareChat Icon

Should we bring him before he falls asleep so he sees us leave him or is it ok to bring him while he is asleep? I don't know if it will be ok for him to wake up and not know where he is or who the people are. He is having a bad I want mommy only stage right now (bad timing). He is 3 months old.

Thanks.

I haven't started DS in daycare yet, so I have not good advice for you...I'm sorry but I'm wishing you a good day today!

Have you left him with a sitter yet? If so, have you ever left him with the sitter while he was still asleep? If so, how did he do when he woke up? Have you visited the day care center before? If so, how long was his visit with them? was it a quick visit and did he do well?

If he's been left somewhere while he was sleeping and woke up and realized you weren't there and was fine, then perhaps today he'll do well. Best of luck - I'll be asking you for advice in a few weeks when my DS starts his first day.

rocco was awake when i brought him to daycare. he didn't seem like he minded one way or the other - he was 2 months old that day at this age, i think they're flexible and it should be okay - i think it will be easier for you to drop him awake so you can see he is ok in his new surroundingsChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Getting to Daycare - asleep or awake?

Thanks.

I brought him while he was still awake. It was better that way. I was able to let him look around while I was still there and then hand him off to the DirectorChat Icon and say goodbye.

This is going to be such a rough day. Thank goodness I scheduled a facial to help me try and relax and give me something to look forward to a little later. I am already looking so forward to seeing him when I pick him up after the facial (a little earlier than usual but why make him stay all day on his first day).

I am so glad I did this before I go back to work. I could not imagine heading to my office now after this. I need this extra time to adjust.

I just keep taking deep breaths. It seems so weird at home without him already. They said to call as much as I needed today. I plan on it.Chat Icon

DD usually falls asleep on the way to DC. Sometimes she wakes up when we drop her off, sometimes she doesn't. When she first started, she would be awake when we dropped her off. She did great. Good luck!

Usually DS is sleeping, but today he was wide awake. If I wasn't taking hiim to daycare, he would be sleeping at that point, so I rather him continue sleeping. I feel bad b/c I have to wake him up to change him and then usually he falls back asleep in the car.
